To reboot a Roku Premiere Plus or another Roku streaming player, press Home on the remote and open Settings > System > Power > System restart. If there is no Power submenu, choose System restart under System. If you cannot reach the menu, unplug the player, wait at least 10 seconds, and reconnect it. A restart does not erase your settings.
Restart the Roku from its settings
- Press Home on your Roku remote.
- Open Settings > System.
- Select Power, if that submenu appears.
- Choose System restart, then confirm if prompted.
Roku gives this menu path for streaming players; menus and power arrangements may differ on other Roku devices. Roku Support describes a system restart as its least invasive reset method and says it will not affect settings: How to system restart your Roku streaming device.

Restart it without the remote or menu
Disconnect the player from its power source, wait at least 10 seconds, then reconnect it. The player will start up again. This method does not require access to the on-screen menu or a working remote.
If the Roku responds to the free Roku mobile app, you can also use the app to navigate to the restart option. If the remote itself is unreliable, Roku recommends checking or replacing its batteries. See Roku remote troubleshooting.

A restart is not a factory reset
| Action | When to use it | Effect on data and settings |
|---|---|---|
| System restart | The player responds and you can reach its settings. | Does not affect settings, according to Roku Support. |
| Unplug and reconnect | The menu is inaccessible or you cannot control the player. | Restarts the player; it is not a factory reset. |
| Factory reset | You deliberately want to erase the device and set it up again. | Erases personal preferences, unlinks the device from your Roku account, removes apps and account information, and requires guided setup again. See Roku’s factory-reset instructions. |
Do not choose factory reset just to reboot the player; it removes information and preferences that a restart preserves.
If the Roku keeps restarting when the TV turns on
Some Roku players powered through a TV’s USB port may lose power when the television is turned off or enters standby, then boot when the TV is turned on again. For the player models covered by Roku’s guidance, connecting the device to a wall outlet can avoid that power interruption. This explanation does not apply to every Roku model or every unexpected restart. See Why does my Roku streaming player restart every time I turn on my TV?.
