It tracks qualifying Argentine stocks in construction-related industries, weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. To interpret a quote or compare performance, first check the return type and the date of the figures.
What the index includes
S&P Dow Jones Indices describes the benchmark as a measure of stocks in the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index classified in construction-related industries under the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). “Construction” is therefore broader than companies that build structures: the methodology identifies five eligible sub-industries.

The parent index sets an additional boundary. It covers domestic stocks listed on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange that traded on at least 20% of trading days in the previous 12 months. The construction index is the qualifying subset of those stocks, subject to its GICS classifications. S&P’s index page and the S&P/BYMA Indices Methodology describe the index and its rules; the parent-index description is on S&P’s General Index page.

How weighting affects the index
The methodology says, “The indices are FMC weighted.” FMC means float-adjusted market-capitalization weighting: a company’s weight reflects its market value adjusted for shares available to investors, rather than an equal allocation to every constituent. A larger-weighted company’s price movement can therefore have more influence on the index level.

This weighting rule does not mean the index is broadly diversified. In S&P’s snapshot dated September 14, 2026, the largest constituent represented 82.5% of the index. That is a dated observation, not a current weight; constituent weights can change.
SPBYCAP versus the total-return ticker
S&P lists two ARS versions. SPBYCAP is the price-return index; SPBYCAT is the total-return index. The methodology says price-return versions are calculated without adjustment for regular cash dividends. A price-return result and a total-return result are not interchangeable, so identify which ticker and return type a quote uses before comparing performance. S&P lists the tickers and index details here.

How to interpret the dated figures
S&P’s index page surfaced a performance snapshot dated September 14, 2026. These values describe that snapshot, not live conditions on October 7, 2026 or afterward.
| Measure | S&P snapshot | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Constituents | 6, as of the September 14, 2026 snapshot | The number of stocks in that dated index snapshot. |
| Largest constituent weight | 82.5%, as of the September 14, 2026 snapshot | The largest constituent had substantial influence in that snapshot. |
| Index level | 32,170.31 ARS, as of September 14, 2026 | A point-in-time index level denominated in Argentine pesos. |
| One-year price return | 36.87%, as of September 14, 2026 | Price-return performance over the period shown, excluding regular cash-dividend adjustments. |
| Year-to-date price return | −23.13%, as of September 14, 2026 | Price-return performance from the start of that year through the snapshot date. |
All figures in the table are from S&P’s index page. For a current level or updated characteristics, consult that page or BYMA’s historical index data; do not carry forward the dated values as if they were current.

What to check before comparing it
- Return type: compare price return with price return or total return with total return.
- Currency: make sure the figures use the same currency; the tickers described here are ARS versions.
- Measurement dates: align the start and end dates, and label point-in-time index levels and weights with their as-of dates.
- Constituent scope: SPBYCAP covers a narrow industry subset of the broader S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index, not the whole parent market benchmark.
- Concentration: check the current constituent weights rather than assuming the index’s influence is evenly spread.
The methodology explains the construction and weighting rules; the index page and BYMA series provide values and data access. Those sources do not establish that SPBYCAP itself is a tradable security or that a fund tracks it. Treat it as a benchmark unless a separate, reliable source identifies a specific investment product.
