When do NFL inactive lists come out?
NFL Support says teams designate players inactive about 90 minutes before the scheduled start when a player is unable to play. NFL Football Operations places delivery of each club’s inactive list in its Game Day Administration Report at the 90-minute meeting. The public listing may not appear at an exact minute: the NFL does not state a precise refresh time for its Inactives page.

Where to check the official inactive list
Open the NFL Inactives page around that game’s pre-kickoff window and find the relevant matchup and player. It is the NFL’s public lookup for game-day inactive designations. NFL Football Operations explains that clubs’ lists are part of the Game Day Administration Report delivered at the 90-minute meeting; the public page is the practical place for fans to check.

How injury designations differ from inactive status
An injury report is not the final game-day inactive list. The NFL defines the statuses as follows:
- Questionable: It is uncertain whether the player will participate.
- Doubtful: The player is unlikely to participate.
- Out: The player will not play.
Questionable and Doubtful are not confirmations that a player is inactive. To confirm a game-day designation, check the inactive list. The NFL’s explanation of injury-report distinctions is available in its injury report update.

How many players are inactive?
Under the roster rules described in the NFL’s 2024 Record and Fact Book, a club can have 47 active players, or 48 if it has at least eight offensive linemen. Five or six inactive players complete a 53-player roster. This count is roster context only: it does not tell you which players will be inactive for a particular game. Fantasy lineup check after the list appears
If you play NFL Fantasy, check whether an inactive starter needs replacing. NFL Support describes an optional Auto-Swap Inactives feature: it starts the top-ranked player in your backups list and swaps only players projected to score zero.
