Messenger does not tell you when someone blocks you, and it offers no visible sign that proves a block. A message stuck at “Sent” may be a clue, but it is not confirmation. Treat status changes and missing profile details cautiously; old messages and some shared content can remain visible even when blocking limits contact.
What Messenger shows—and what it doesn’t
Meta says, “When you block someone, we don’t notify them.” Blocking can prevent the blocked person from starting conversations with the blocker on Messenger or Facebook chat, but the person who may have been blocked does not receive an alert explaining why contact is limited. Why a single sign is not enough
A message that does not advance, an unavailable profile detail, or another change in what you can see cannot identify its cause on its own. Meta’s cited help pages do not provide an exhaustive comparison of blocking with account deactivation, privacy settings, account restrictions, or temporary delivery and app problems. Do not infer a block from one missing status or from several signs appearing together.

What to do if you suspect a block
- Check the interpretation, not just the indicator: “Sent” is a reported clue, not proof, and remaining message history is compatible with blocking.
- Avoid repeatedly messaging or trying to work around someone’s contact settings. The visible signs do not establish what happened, and blocking is intended to limit interaction.
- If there is a genuine practical need to communicate, use an appropriate existing channel respectfully and accept that the person may not wish to respond.
