Read BHEL’s financial statements and order book together: revenue and profit show recognized business, the balance sheet and cash flow reveal the resources and cash tied up in delivering it, and the order book indicates work still to be executed—not sales or profit already earned. Start by checking whether each figure is audited, which period it covers, and whether it is standalone or consolidated.
Start with the reporting period and status
Use BHEL’s investor relations page to locate annual reports, audited results, unaudited quarterly results and presentations. Before comparing figures, record the period, the balance-sheet date, whether the document is audited, and whether it reports standalone or consolidated results. Compare like with like: an unaudited quarterly release is not interchangeable with an audited annual report.

This distinction matters for the latest year. BHEL’s 17 April 2026 release described FY 2025–26 turnover of approximately ₹32,350 crore as provisional and unaudited. It also reported approximate order inflows of ₹75,000 crore and an outstanding order book of approximately ₹2.4 lakh crore at year-end. BHEL subsequently listed its FY26 annual report on 10 July 2026 and FY26 audited results on 4 May 2026. The release figures should not be presented as audited annual-report figures; consult those later audited materials for final figures and definitions. Income statement: what was recognized and what remained
Follow revenue through operating costs, finance costs, tax and profit after tax. Check whether revenue growth is accompanied by stronger operating performance and profit; a higher sales figure alone does not establish improved profitability. Order receipts are not recognized revenue: an order enters the pipeline before the related work is performed and revenue is recognized under applicable accounting rules.

Balance sheet: what delivery requires
Review cash and investments, receivables, inventories, work-in-progress or contract assets where disclosed, advances, payables, borrowings, provisions and other liabilities. These lines help show the resources and obligations behind project execution. For example, receivables or inventory may affect liquidity, but their movement and cause must be checked in BHEL’s notes rather than inferred from the order book.
Cash flow: whether earnings turned into cash
Compare operating cash flow with reported profit and examine working-capital movements. A gap between earnings and operating cash flow calls for a period-specific explanation from the cash flow statement and notes. The order book by itself cannot explain cash conversion.

Notes and audit context: the qualifications behind headline numbers
Read accounting policies, segment information, contingent liabilities, guarantees, related-party disclosures, management discussion and auditor comments. BHEL’s FY24 board report said EBITDA comparatives were restated because of a change in accounting policy. That warning matters if calculating EBITDA growth across the affected periods: use comparable restated figures from the report, not an unqualified year-over-year comparison. Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSeparate order receipts, outstanding orders and revenue
Order receipts measure orders booked during a period. Outstanding order book measures orders still outstanding at a specified date. Revenue is a separate income-statement measure for work recognized during the reporting period. Keep the tax basis attached to each order figure and do not treat the order book as a forecast of near-term revenue, earnings or cash.

| Measure | FY 2023–24 | FY 2024–25 |
|---|---|---|
| Order receipts | ₹77,907 crore (BHEL annual report) | ₹92,535 crore, excluding taxes (BHEL annual report) |
| Outstanding order book | ₹1,31,598 crore, net of taxes (BHEL annual report) | ₹1,96,328 crore, excluding taxes, at 31 March 2025 (BHEL annual report) |
| Executable order book | ₹1,23,916 crore at 31 March 2024 (BHEL annual report) | Not stated in the cited FY25 performance highlights |
| Revenue | ₹22,921 crore (BHEL annual report) | ₹27,355 crore (BHEL annual report) |
| EBITDA | ₹1,201 crore; FY24 report notes EBITDA comparatives were restated owing to an accounting policy change | ₹1,745 crore (BHEL annual report) |
| Profit after tax | ₹260 crore (BHEL annual report) | ₹513 crore (BHEL annual report) |
FY24 and FY25 figures above come from BHEL’s respective annual reports; the FY24 outstanding order book is explicitly described as net of taxes, while FY25 order receipts and outstanding orders are stated excluding taxes. Keep those labels visible when comparing the periods. BHEL’s FY25 report does not establish a comparable executable-order-book figure in the cited performance highlights, so do not extrapolate the FY24 executable amount to FY25. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Assess how the order pipeline may convert
A large outstanding book can indicate contracted work ahead, but it does not establish when projects will be executed, the margins they will earn, or when cash will be collected. To assess conversion, examine the information BHEL actually reports rather than dividing the order book by revenue or assuming the whole balance will become sales on a fixed schedule.

- Order movement: Compare period order receipts with closing outstanding orders, checking each figure’s date and tax basis.
- Executable versus total: Where BHEL reports both, distinguish work it identifies as executable from the total outstanding balance. These are not interchangeable measures.
- Execution and recognition: Look for project progress, execution or commissioning disclosures and connect them to recognized revenue.
- Mix and concentration: Review sector mix and customer or project concentration where the report provides them; an aggregate total does not show the underlying distribution.
- Cash and working capital: Check receivables, inventories, advances, payables and operating cash flow for the period-specific funding demands of delivery.
For FY24, BHEL reported both outstanding and executable order-book figures. For FY25, its cited performance highlights provide total outstanding orders and order receipts, but not a directly comparable executable figure. The approximate FY26 release totals are provisional release figures, not a substitute for reading audited FY26 disclosures and their definitions.
