How to read a public channel in a browser
Open the public channel’s web link in your browser. Telegram’s official Channels tour says public channel content can be seen on the web without an account and is indexed by search engines: Telegram Channels tour. Telegram also announced that public channels can be viewed on the web without being logged in, using links such as t.me/s/: Telegram’s May 31, 2019 announcement.

How to find and follow a channel in Telegram
Public channels have usernames and can be found through Telegram search. You can open one in the app and join to follow it; Telegram says new subscribers can see the channel’s message history. See the Telegram Channels FAQ.

Joining is different from simply viewing a public preview: it gives you the app’s joined-channel experience. Telegram describes Premium as an optional subscription that adds features and limits, while core features remain free: Telegram Premium announcement. That announcement dates to the 2022 launch and is not a current localized price list, so it does not establish a universal Premium price today.
When does reading a channel cost money?
Ordinary public-channel reading is not inherently paid. A separate exception applies when a creator gates particular content: Telegram supports monthly paid invite links for exclusive channels and paid individual posts using Stars. The creator sets the terms for that access. Telegram describes paid media and Stars subscriptions in its August 14, 2024 announcement; its Privacy Policy also describes public chats as accessible to everyone and supports creator-paid posts.

So if a channel or post asks for Stars, that charge is for content the creator has restricted—not a general fee for reading public Telegram channels or a requirement to buy Premium.
What if the channel is private?
A private channel is not the same as a public channel opened in a browser. Telegram says private channels require the owner to add you or provide an invite link. Public usernames and search do not make private content openly accessible; see the Telegram Channels FAQ.
