Use an encoder such as OBS: add the prerecorded tour as a Media Source, place a QR code Image Source or Browser Source above it, then send the composed scene to a scheduled YouTube Live event. Check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and test the QR from a phone before the public broadcast.
What you need before you start
- A property-tour video you have permission to stream, and any required rights for its music, people, and other material.
- A QR code leading to the exact destination you want viewers to visit, such as the property listing or tour information page.
- OBS Studio or another encoder that supports overlays, plus a YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- A scheduled YouTube Live event and its stream URL and key.
YouTube says a verified channel without live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days is required. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility early. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Choose how the QR code will appear

OBS describes Media, Image, Text, and Browser Sources and explains that sources higher in the list appear above lower ones. Its guide is at OBS Sources Guide. A QR generator or destination URL is separate from YouTube; YouTube does not create the code for this workflow.

Set up the prerecorded tour and QR in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene for the property tour.
- Add the tour video. In Sources, select + and choose Media Source. Select the recording and confirm it plays. Set the source to restart or loop only if that behavior is intended for your event; for a single scheduled tour, avoid accidentally leaving it looping.
- Add the QR code. For a saved code image, select + and choose Image, then select the exported image. For a webpage overlay, choose Browser and enter the overlay page URL.
- Layer and place it. In Sources, move the QR source above the Media Source. Resize and position it so it remains visible without obscuring key property details, room labels, or other important tour content.
- Check the scene at broadcast size. Play the tour and watch how the code sits over both bright and dark footage. Confirm the destination URL in the code is correct and reachable before broadcast.
Create and connect the YouTube Live event
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the livestream and set its audience, title, visibility, and start time as appropriate for the event.
- Copy the encoder details. Open the event’s stream settings and copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS under Settings → Stream, using the YouTube/RTMPS service option presented by OBS. Follow the current YouTube and OBS prompts if labels differ.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it. YouTube says the key functions like the stream’s password and address; reset it if exposed. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Start the encoder early. YouTube advises configuring an encoder at least 2 hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. These are platform instructions, not a guarantee that every setup will connect on schedule. Consult YouTube live streaming tips.
Preview and test the actual QR
- Start streaming from OBS while the YouTube event is still in preview, not yet publicly live.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and inspect the composed feed, not just the OBS canvas. Confirm the tour image, QR position, and audio.
- Open the YouTube preview on representative phones and scan the code from the screen at typical playback sizes. Verify that it opens the intended page. Also test when the code is over the brightest and darkest parts of the footage.
- Check that the QR stays visible long enough for a viewer to notice and scan it. No universal pixel size, viewing distance, or dwell time guarantees a successful scan; YouTube transcodes streams for different devices and networks, so encoder preview alone is not enough.
- Use YouTube’s stream-health indicators and check representative video and audio before starting the public event. YouTube’s guidance is available at Live streaming tips and encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Go live and monitor the tour
When the Control Room preview and phone scan both work, start the event in YouTube’s controls. Keep OBS connected and confirm the Media Source advances as expected. Monitor stream health and the event; end it through the encoder and YouTube controls when the tour is over. YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours, according to its current guidance at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Rights and property-specific checks
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider to hold the necessary rights and comply with Community Guidelines and applicable law. Before streaming, confirm permission for the property footage, music, any people shown, and third-party material such as photographs or floor plans. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions. A prerecorded tour streamed as a live event does not remove those obligations.
Troubleshoot common QR and stream problems
