This creates a separate protected space; it does not put a password prompt on the app in its usual location. If you need to lend the tablet temporarily, app pinning can keep someone in one app, while a screen lock protects the entire tablet.
How do I put a password on apps on my Samsung tablet?
Use Samsung’s Secure Folder. The current route in Samsung’s US instructions is Settings → Security and privacy → More security settings → Secure Folder. Follow the setup prompts and choose a lock method offered on your tablet. Then open Secure Folder and use its controls to add or install the apps you want to keep there.

Secure Folder manages a protected copy or installation of an app within the folder; it does not attach a lock to the app’s ordinary icon outside Secure Folder. Samsung says availability can vary by device and service, so if Secure Folder is missing, check your tablet model, region, Android and One UI versions, and current local Samsung support guidance.

What should I know about Secure Folder’s auto-lock behavior?
Auto-lock choices depend on the tablet’s software. Samsung’s US support guidance says that starting with Android 16 and One UI 8, the “Each time I leave an app” option was removed; the default is to lock Secure Folder when the screen turns off. Check the auto-lock settings on your device, and use Lock and exit when you want to secure the folder manually. See Samsung’s current Secure Folder instructions.
Which Samsung tablet lock option fits your situation?

How do I protect the whole tablet with a password?
For device-wide protection, go to Settings → Lock screen and AOD → Screen lock type, then select password, PIN, or pattern. Samsung’s screen-lock guide covers the available options. This lock protects access to the tablet as a whole; it is separate from Secure Folder’s lock.

How can I lend the tablet without letting someone leave one app?
Use app pinning when you want to keep a borrower in a single app, not when you need an app-opening password. Samsung describes pinning as locking an app on screen so it cannot be closed; it prevents navigation away rather than adding a password prompt when that app opens.
- Go to Settings → Security and privacy → More security settings and enable Allow apps to be pinned.
- Open the app you want to share, then open Recents and pin the app using the on-screen control.
- To stop pinning, follow the instructions displayed on your tablet; the unpin gesture varies by navigation mode.

What if I forget my Secure Folder lock?
Samsung says Secure Folder credentials can be reset through a Samsung account only if Reset with Samsung account was enabled beforehand. Set up that recovery option when configuring the folder and keep your credentials somewhere safe; without the prior setting, recovery through that method may not be available.
