To protect your privacy when using Pinger, first decide whether TextFree’s advertising-supported model suits you; then minimize optional information and permissions, review the policy for the specific app, and use Pinger’s account-linked process for data requests. Before deleting an account, save anything you need: deletion ends your account and phone number and removes messages, voicemail, and media without recovery.
What information does Pinger collect?
Pinger’s US and Canada Privacy Policy describes three broad groups: Personal Information, App Data, and Share Data. Depending on the product and how you use it, examples include account and contact details, billing information, IP address and device identifiers, timestamps, app interactions, advertising interactions, location, cookies, messages and related details such as recipients and attachments, and content or contacts you provide. Pinger says its primary goal in collecting information is to provide and improve its products and services. It also describes using information to operate services, communicate notices, handle content at a user’s direction, and deliver advertising. Pinger’s US and Canada Privacy Policy covers multiple products, so check the current notice and terms for the exact app you intend to use.

Retention depends on the data category
Pinger’s California privacy notice gives examples of retention periods: message content is retained indefinitely for active accounts and for six months for inactive accounts; call detail records are retained for two years; contacts are retained while an account is open; and app feature usage is retained for two years. These are statements in the California notice, not a guarantee for every Pinger app, region, or future policy version. The notice also describes disclosures to communications back-end providers, support and analytics service providers, and advertising companies for TextFree advertising. Those are Pinger’s disclosures, not an independent security audit.

Free TextFree and TextFree Plus
| Choice | What Pinger’s disclosures establish | Privacy implication |
|---|---|---|
| Free TextFree | Pinger describes the service as ad-supported and says information may be used for tailored advertising. | Expect advertising-related use or disclosure as described in the applicable notice. |
| TextFree Plus | Pinger describes an advertising-free feature. | Ad-free does not mean data-free: the cited disclosures do not say a subscription stops the processing needed to provide communications or all other processing. |
| Do not use the service | No Pinger account is created for the service you avoid. | This avoids providing that service with account data, but does not address data already submitted or held under applicable exceptions. |
The sources do not establish that any option is categorically private. Check the current subscription terms and price in the app or store before choosing a plan; no current price is established here.
How to reduce the information you share
- Choose the exact product first. Read the Pinger privacy policy and the applicable Pinger terms. The policy covers multiple Pinger products, while functionality and paid features can differ.
- Decide whether advertising is an acceptable trade-off. For free TextFree, assume that app, device, and usage information may be used for advertising as Pinger describes. Consider Plus only if its stated ad-free feature is valuable to you; do not treat it as a promise of no data processing.
- Keep optional details to a minimum. Avoid entering sensitive information that is not needed to use the service. Review app and operating-system settings for permissions such as contacts and location, and allow only what you need. Pinger’s policy lists relevant data categories, but it does not provide a reliable, current permission-by-permission setup path; consult your device’s current settings rather than relying on a fixed menu route.
- Review any separate privacy feature before using it. Pinger’s terms say certain privacy features are provided by a third-party service provider, identify Array’s privacy policy, and say submitted data is subject to the provider’s terms. Availability may vary by app, version, user, or region. Before submitting identifiers, review what the feature requests and the provider’s current notice; do not assume a scan removes all information about you.
How to request access to or deletion of your data
Pinger’s California privacy notice describes access and deletion requests through the relevant app or account process. Pinger says it verifies requests. The notice says deleting personal information requires account termination because Pinger cannot provide the service without that information; legal exceptions may allow some records to remain. Rights and procedures can vary by jurisdiction, so use the process and notice applicable to your account.

What to save before deleting a Pinger account
Account deletion is consequential. Pinger says it terminates the account and number and deletes messages, voicemail, and media without recovery. Its help article also warns that deleting the account may not cancel a subscription used with TextFree Web; check your current plan and the relevant app-store billing instructions separately.

Preserve conversations you still need
Pinger says there is no dedicated function to download or export texts, call history, or voicemails. Its documented workaround for conversations is to sign in to TextFree Web and copy them into a document. That workaround is manual copying; Pinger’s guidance does not establish that it preserves attachments or exports every record. Read Pinger’s instructions for saving messages or conversations before deleting the account.
