Poland’s Ministry says listed mObywatel document data, including the school ID, is stored encrypted on the phone; that is a statement in the Ministry’s privacy policy, not an independent security audit or a guarantee against every risk.
What mObywatel Junior does
mObywatel Junior is the student-facing area of Poland’s official mObywatel app. The official leaflet says it became available in September 2025, is available to pupils including adult students, and can be used by children in early primary grades without a Trusted Profile. It displays no advertisements. The Centre for Informatics Technology (COI) describes the available documents as including a digital school ID, temporary driving licence and Large Family Card. A parent or guardian can also add the child’s school ID to their own mObywatel app.

To add a school ID, the official instructions use a QR code or UUID supplied through the Integrated Educational Platform (ZPE). COI says the school ID can be added to up to five devices, including a pupil’s and guardians’ devices. Treat the QR code or UUID as setup credentials: use only the value issued through ZPE, and do not share it casually.

Choose a private Junior PIN
Set a PIN that is difficult to guess and keep it private. Avoid obvious codes such as a birth date or repeated digits, and do not share it with friends or respond to unexpected requests for it. The official Junior leaflet identifies PIN protection as the control guarding the digital school ID. It does not describe PIN reset, lockout or retry-limit behavior.

Lock each phone separately
Use the phone’s own screen lock as well as the app PIN, and keep the phone’s operating system and official mObywatel app up to date. The Junior leaflet documents app PIN protection; it does not describe a separate Junior device-management service. A PIN in the app is not a substitute for securing the device that contains it.
Limit devices to the ones your family can protect
Decide whether the child, a parent or both need the digital ID on their phones. COI’s limit is up to five devices, but adding another device also creates another place that needs a screen lock and private app access. Official sources do not rank a child’s phone versus a parent’s phone as more secure; choose based on who can reliably protect and present the device.

Keep the traditional school ID available as a fallback if your family wants one. The official sources describe digital access and multi-device use, but do not establish that a phone will always be available or usable when the child needs to show identification.

Install the official app and watch for phishing
Install mObywatel through its official distribution channel. If a message or website asks for the child’s PIN, PESEL or ZPE setup code, do not provide it through the link. The Ministry’s general mObywatel security guidance discusses phishing awareness and reporting, but it does not establish a Junior-specific account-recovery process.

What the Ministry says about personal data
The Ministry’s mObywatel privacy policy says the app does not create an external user account and that data for listed documents, including the school ID, is obtained from state registers and stored encrypted on the phone. In the policy’s words, “Aplikacja mObywatel, szanując Twoją prywatność, nie tworzy zewnętrznego konta użytkownika” (“The mObywatel application, respecting your privacy, does not create an external user account”). The policy is the Ministry’s description of the app; it should not be read as an independent audit of Junior’s implementation.
The same policy says document data refresh requires the user’s consent and is performed in the app using “Odśwież dane.” It also says the app does not process personal data downloaded through use of the services and does not collect information about use of data-transfer or electronic-verification functions. Those are policy statements, not a promise that no data is processed for any purpose.

Other data and app permissions
The policy says name, surname and PESEL are processed to create and manage the app’s User Certificate. It also describes statistical records such as counts of activated services, issued certificates, refreshed data, lost phones reported and problems reported. According to the policy, these statistics are retained for six years after the user’s last activity and are not processed for marketing.

The policy further says mObywatel does not record or analyze calls, contacts or messages. You can inspect the app’s resource access in your phone’s settings.

What to do if the phone is lost or information is wrong
The Ministry’s general mObywatel security guidance says activating mObywatel on another device invalidates the previous device certificate. The article also discusses invalidating an mDowód certificate by phone. It does not confirm that either step is the exact recovery procedure for a Junior school ID, or that it removes all Junior data or restores a child’s profile.
For a lost phone, incorrect information or a question about the child’s profile, use the support route in the current mObywatel app regulation and ask which procedure applies to the child’s account and certificate. The regulation also says users can stop using the app by deactivating a service where that feature is available or uninstalling the app. The official material cited here does not explain a Junior-specific lost-device workflow or how a parent or guardian should represent a child in a data-rights request, so confirm those cases with support rather than assuming a reset or deletion process.
