What does “Copies: 2” do?
It requests two complete runs of the selected print job. For a multi-page document, that means printing the document’s pages twice—not placing two pages on each sheet.

Set the copy count in your app
Microsoft Word for Windows
- Select File > Print.
- In the Copies box, enter 2.
- Confirm the intended printer, review the preview and other options, then select Print.
Microsoft documents this workflow for Word for Microsoft 365 and Word 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024. Its guidance says: “Under Print, in the Copies box, enter the number of copies you want.” Microsoft Support: Basic tasks in Word.

Microsoft Edge
Open the print interface with Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, set Copies to 2, and verify the selected printer before printing. Available layout options can depend on the printer and selected settings. Microsoft Support: Print in Microsoft Edge.
Chromebook
Press Ctrl+P, choose the printer under Destination, and look in the print dialog for a copy-count control. Its location and availability depend on the interface and selected printer. Google’s setup instructions document opening the dialog and choosing a printer, but do not specify the control’s exact location. Google Chromebook Help: Set up your printer.

Copies, pages per sheet, and collating
- Copies controls how many times the selected job is printed. Set it to 2 for two full copies.
- Pages per sheet arranges multiple document pages on one physical sheet. It does not make two complete copies.
- Collate affects the order for multi-page jobs. With collating enabled, the printer outputs one complete set of pages, then the next; without it, it may group matching page numbers together. Apple lists Collate Sheets as the option for printing the entire document before the next copy.
Some publishing or layout tools also offer multiple copies of a small item per sheet—for example, repeated cards. That is a layout setting rather than the ordinary Copies count. For special stock such as labels, the Publisher guidance recommends testing alignment on plain paper first. Microsoft Support: Print different labels on one sheet in Publisher.

Check the job before printing
- Confirm the intended printer or destination in the print interface.
- Check that Copies is set to 2.
- Review the preview to make sure the pages and layout look right.
- For a multi-page document, choose the collating behavior that matches how you want the sets arranged.
If it prints only once or goes to the wrong printer
- If only one set comes out, reopen the originating app’s Print dialog and confirm the job’s Copies value is 2 before resending it.
- If the job goes to the wrong device, select the intended printer or destination in that same print interface.
- If the copy-count control is missing or named differently, check the options exposed by the app and selected printer; available controls can vary.
