Open the webpage’s print dialog, choose a PDF destination, turn off Headers and footers (or the similarly named option), check the preview, and save. This removes browser-added details such as the page title, URL, date, and page number—not text or banners that are part of the website itself.
Turn off headers and footers in Firefox
- Open the webpage and choose Print.
- In the destination dropdown, select Save to PDF.
- Expand More settings and clear Print headers and footers.
- Check the preview, then click Print and choose where to save the PDF.
Firefox also offers Simplified format when available. It can reduce surrounding page clutter, but it is separate from the header-and-footer setting. Mozilla notes that choosing Simplified disables the Print backgrounds choice. See Mozilla’s Firefox printing instructions.
Turn off headers and footers in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page and choose Settings and more > Print, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, or right-click an empty area and choose Print.
- Select a PDF destination if the print dialog offers one.
- Open More settings and turn off Headers and footers.
- Inspect the preview and save the PDF.
Microsoft says that when this option is enabled, Edge adds the current date in the header and the page number in the footer. If the page’s colors or design disappear in the PDF, check Background graphics. For pages whose own content is cluttered, Immersive Reader may help where the site supports it. Turn off headers and footers in Chrome and Chromium
- Open the page and launch Print. Use File > Print or Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux; on Mac, use Command+P.
- Choose a PDF destination, such as Save as PDF.
- In the print dialog, locate Headers and footers and clear it.
- Review the preview, then save the PDF.
Google’s help confirms the print-preview and PDF workflow. Chromium’s developer documentation confirms that automatically generated headers and footers can be disabled in the print dialog, but the Google help page does not specify the checkbox’s exact location. Check what the PDF will include
Before saving, look at the preview. A webpage can have a print layout that differs from what you see in the browser, so check that the text is readable, page breaks make sense, and nothing important is cut off.

- Browser-added metadata: The print dialog’s headers-and-footers option controls browser-generated material in the page margins.
- Website content: Ads, navigation, cookie notices, and other items built into the webpage are not browser headers or footers. Turning off the setting will not remove them.
- Layout and scale: If content is clipped or too small, adjust margins or scaling and inspect the preview again.
- Backgrounds: If the PDF loses colors or design elements, check the browser’s background-printing control. Firefox calls it Print backgrounds; Edge documents Background graphics.
Fix common problems
The headers-and-footers option is missing
Expand More settings in the print dialog. On some managed Edge devices, an administrator can force the setting on or off; users cannot override a forced policy. Details are in Microsoft’s PrintHeaderFooter policy documentation.
The PDF still contains a title, URL, date, or page number
Return to print preview and make sure the browser’s headers-and-footers option is actually cleared. If the unwanted material remains, check whether it is part of the webpage itself rather than browser-generated margin text.

The page is clipped or difficult to read
Use the preview to adjust margins or scaling. Edge documents margin choices of Default, None, Minimum, and Custom, and scaling choices of Fit to printable area, Actual size, and Custom. A smaller scale can fit more content but may make text harder to read.
Ads or navigation still appear
Those are webpage content, so the browser header-and-footer toggle does not remove them. Try Firefox’s Simplified format or Edge’s Immersive Reader if available for that page. Mozilla also mentions the optional Print Edit WE extension for editing page content; it is not needed just to remove browser-generated headers and footers.

The printout differs from the screen
That can be expected: websites may use a separate print layout. Review the entire preview and adjust settings before saving.
