Choose a PDF destination, inspect the preview, check the page range and layout settings, then save. If the preview or saved PDF contains blank sheets, check those settings first; if the problem happens only on one site, its print-specific CSS may be affecting pagination.
Save a long web page as a PDF in Chrome
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. These are Chrome’s documented computer print shortcuts: Chrome keyboard shortcuts.
- In the print interface, choose the available PDF destination. The exact label and controls can differ by desktop environment and destination.
- Inspect the preview, choose the intended page range, and review paper size, margins, and scale.
- Save the PDF to the location you want.
Google’s Chrome-oriented instructions describe choosing a destination and print settings; the explicit “Save as PDF” label in Chrome Help applies to Android and should not be assumed to match every desktop dialog. Check the preview before saving
The preview is the quickest way to tell whether a blank sheet is present in the print output before creating the PDF. If it is, check these settings one at a time:
- Page range: Confirm that the selected range includes only the pages you intend to save.
- Paper size: Check that the selected size is appropriate for the document.
- Margins and scale: Review both; different combinations can change pagination and where content lands.
- Headers and footers: Toggle them as a controlled check. They affect margin content, but that does not establish that they caused an otherwise blank page.
These checks can reveal a settings-related problem, but no single setting is a documented universal fix for every blank-page PDF.

When the blank page comes from the website
If the problem occurs on just one website, its print styling is a plausible cause. Web pages can use @media print to change or hide content when printed, and @page to set printed page dimensions, orientation, and margins. CSS break rules can also influence where content is split across pages. See MDN’s guides to printing with CSS and the break-before property; the older page-break-after property is a deprecated alias replaced by break-after.
These mechanisms explain how a site can change printed output; they do not identify the cause of a particular blank sheet. A normal Chrome print dialog may not let you repair the site’s CSS. If the page offers a printer-friendly or export view, try it and compare the resulting page breaks, margins, and content with the Chrome preview.

Troubleshoot blank pages in a useful order
- Look at the preview. Note whether the blank sheet is already visible before you save.
- Check the range and layout. Verify the selected pages, paper size, margins, and scale.
- Toggle headers and footers. Use this only as a test of margin content, not as an assumed cure for a blank body page. Chrome supports configurable margin content; managed browsers may also have administrator-controlled settings. See Chrome’s margin-content documentation and Chrome Enterprise policy guidance.
- Compare another route for that page. Try a site-provided print or export view if one exists. Check whether it removes the blank sheet while preserving readable content and page breaks.
- Report a site-specific problem. If it persists, record the page URL and what the preview shows. Diagnosing the exact cause requires the affected page or its print CSS; generic Chrome instructions cannot determine it.
