Choose a display spot away from sunlight and heat
Direct sun is a poor choice for light-sensitive collectibles because it is intense, carries substantial ultraviolet (UV) radiation and is difficult to control. The Library of Congress Preservation Directorate advises: “Generally, sunlight is avoided for display of light-sensitive items as it is too intense, contains high levels of UV, and is difficult to control.” UV is not the only concern: visible light can also contribute to deterioration, even when UV and infrared radiation are filtered out. The amount and rate of change depend on the figure and its materials; the available guidance does not establish a safe exposure threshold for every TMNT release. Place figures away from sunny windows, fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. Sunlight and heat can affect materials, while infrared radiation can generate heat and influence relative humidity. Manufacturer and vendor care advice from Sideshow and Good Smile Company likewise recommends avoiding direct sunlight; Good Smile also advises a well-ventilated display or storage location. These are general care recommendations, not guarantees for every figure or packaging material.
Use a case to limit dust and handling
An enclosed cabinet or display case helps reduce the dust that settles on figures and discourages casual handling. It will not eliminate dust entirely, so check the interior occasionally and clean as needed. A case should be stable, easy to view, and sized so the figure or packaging fits without pressure. An open shelf offers easier access for cleaning, but leaves the collection more exposed to dust and touch.

UV-filtering glazing can be a useful extra barrier when UV exposure cannot be removed at the source. It is not a substitute for moving a display out of direct sun: visible light remains a concern, and standard plastic cases should not be assumed to block all UV unless the specific product provides evidence for that claim. Pioneer Plastics describes cases as a way to reduce dust and handling exposure while warning that no standard plastic case completely blocks UV; this is general manufacturer guidance, not an independent test of every case. For carded figures, protect the card and bubble from pressure
Carded figures need a case sized for the complete package, not just the card backing. Measure the full card width and height, plus the bubble depth, then compare those measurements with the case’s internal dimensions. Leave clearance so acrylic does not press against the blister. Support the card upright on a stable shelf rather than letting it lean or bear weight against the bubble.

TMNT packaging varies by maker, release era, card size and bubble shape. Display Armour’s collector guidance recommends matching a case to those details and avoiding blister pressure; treat any product’s stated compatibility as vendor information and verify the fit for your own figure. Dust loose figures gently
For loose figures, use a clean microfiber cloth or a soft detail brush to lift dust without pressing hard. Take care around fragile painted details, joints and accessories. Avoid force on old packaging or delicate parts; if a figure’s maker provides specific care directions, follow those. Quick display checklist
- Choose a shaded location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Use a stable, enclosed case that reduces dust and casual handling while allowing a good view.
- Treat UV-filtering glazing as added protection, not permission to display in sun.
