If your Android phone wakes or reacts in a pocket, first enable its built-in accidental-touch or pocket-protection feature, if available. On Samsung Galaxy phones, go to Settings > Display > Accidental touch protection. If the screen still wakes, review wake gestures such as Lift to wake or double-tap-to-wake, and keep a secure screen lock enabled. Android settings vary by phone maker and model.
1. Turn on your phone’s accidental-touch protection
Samsung Galaxy phones have a setting called Accidental touch protection. Open Settings > Display and turn it on. Samsung says the feature keeps the screen inactive in a dark place to help prevent unintended calls or messages in a pocket or bag. The exact availability and menu wording can vary by model, software, carrier, and region.

2. Check what wakes the display
Pocket protection and wake gestures address different parts of the problem. If the display keeps lighting up in your pocket, turn off gestures you do not use, such as Lift to wake or double-tap-to-wake, if your phone offers them.
Samsung Galaxy
Samsung’s Canada guidance places motion controls under Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures. Look there for wake gestures and disable any you do not want. 3. Keep a secure screen lock enabled
Use a PIN, pattern, or password so an accidental wake is less likely to lead to an unintended action or access to the phone. A screen lock is a safeguard after the display wakes; it does not necessarily stop the display from briefly lighting. 4. Check the case, screen protector, and display
If the phone registers touches unusually or keeps behaving incorrectly, check that the case or screen protector is not interfering with the touchscreen, clean the display, and follow the manufacturer’s troubleshooting steps. For Pixel, Google provides checks and diagnostics in Fix touch & response issues on your Pixel screen.
Do not turn on a screen-protector sensitivity mode as an accidental-touch remedy: Google describes that option as increasing sensitivity for use with a screen protector, not preventing pocket input.

5. Consider a front-cover case as an extra barrier
A flip or wallet-style case with a cover can physically shield the screen in a pocket or bag. Samsung Canada suggests this as an additional measure. Choose a case made for your exact phone model; a cover is optional and does not replace suitable settings or a screen lock.

If the problem continues
- Confirm that the accidental-touch or pocket-protection setting is enabled, if your model offers one.
- Disable wake gestures you do not use, then check whether pocket activation improves.
- Inspect and clean the screen, and check whether the case or protector affects touch.
- If touches happen in a particular app or persist after these checks, contact the phone maker or the app developer, as appropriate.
