Samsung says gas appliances should be installed by a qualified technician, service company or gas supplier in line with the model’s instructions and local codes. Use this guide to prepare, check the work and know when to stop—not as a substitute for model-specific instructions or qualified gas work.
What hookups does a Samsung gas dryer need?
Plan for three connections: a compatible gas supply, a grounded electrical outlet and an exhaust duct routed outdoors. Samsung’s US buying guide describes a 120V outlet for gas dryers, while its delivery checklist specifies a grounded 110V three-prong outlet. Because those descriptions differ, check the electrical requirements in the manual for your exact model and follow local requirements rather than assuming either figure applies universally. The dryer also needs a sound, compatible gas shutoff and supply connection. Samsung’s delivery checklist calls for a natural-gas shutoff at the dryer location and describes a metal valve in good condition. Its stated requirement that the gas line be within four feet is a delivery-service readiness condition, not a universal gas-code distance. Have an installer confirm that the existing supply is suitable for the dryer and your location. Samsung’s US delivery instructions set out that checklist.
For exhaust, use rigid metal duct or stiff-walled flexible metal duct, not plastic flexible duct. The duct must be securely connected and routed according to the model manual’s requirements and limits. Do not assume a vent length, connector size, clearance or routing rule from a general guide applies to every model or jurisdiction.

What to check before installation
- Find the exact model number. Download its user and installation manual before buying parts, moving the dryer or planning the vent route. Samsung’s general setup overview says to consult the manual for model-specific details.
- Verify the outlet. Confirm that the outlet is grounded and meets the exact model’s requirements. Do not resolve the differing 110V and 120V descriptions above by guesswork; use the manual and applicable local requirements.
- Inspect the gas shutoff and supply. Make sure the shutoff is present and appears to be in good condition. Ask a qualified professional to assess the connection and compatibility before the dryer is connected.
- Check the exhaust path. Confirm that the route vents outdoors, uses permitted metal ducting, and can be connected as the manual specifies. Clear lint and blockages from the existing path before use.
- Check the location. The floor should be solid enough for the appliance to sit firmly and be leveled with its feet. Leave room for the dryer and door movement as specified in the manual.
- Arrange qualified help where needed. Use a qualified professional for gas connection, LP conversion, uncertain vent work or questions about code compliance. Samsung warns that improper installation can create shock, fire, explosion, product-damage or injury hazards.
Samsung’s delivery checklist describes an installation-service accessory bundle with a four-foot coated gas connector and listed fittings, thread sealant, leak-test solution, and an eight-foot UL-listed dryer vent with clamps. Those are descriptions of Samsung’s service bundle—not proof that the same parts fit every model or meet every local requirement. Before shopping for a “gas dryer installation kit,” verify the manual’s connector and vent requirements, local code and the installer’s instructions. Treat gas-line products as supplies for qualified professional work, not as an endorsement of a universal kit. Samsung’s delivery instructions describe the bundle.
Who should connect a Samsung gas dryer?
Samsung says gas appliances must be installed by a qualified technician, service company or gas supplier according to the manufacturer’s instructions and local codes. Its setup guide recommends professional help when connecting or converting a gas line. This is particularly important because the dryer model and installation jurisdiction determine the applicable connection, vent and code requirements. Samsung’s general setup guide describes an overall sequence—connect the gas line on gas models, connect the exhaust, level the dryer, check connections, then power and test it. That overview is not a universal DIY procedure. The exact manual and local code govern; leave gas-line connection and any uncertain work to a qualified professional.

Some gas dryers may be convertible, but do not assume yours is. Samsung says its gas dryers are configured for natural gas by default and that conversion to LP must be done by a qualified service technician. Samsung’s US installation service does not perform natural-gas-to-LP conversion; its delivery checklist directs customers to a licensed professional. Samsung’s setup guide and delivery instructions describe those limits.

A Samsung-hosted instruction document for the LPKIT-4/XAA kit restricts installation to a qualified distributor, dealer or service technician. That kit-specific document does not establish that the kit fits your dryer. Check the exact model’s documentation and confirm the correct conversion parts with an authorized source and qualified installer. Samsung’s LPKIT-4/XAA instructions give the kit’s scope.
What should the installer check before handing over the dryer?
Samsung’s general setup guide calls for confirming the exhaust is connected, joints are taped as instructed, the dryer is level and stable, and the outlet is grounded. It also calls for a gas-leak check, a short functional test and the dryer’s vent-blockage test. These checks complement—not replace—qualified gas installation or the model manual. - Gas connection: The qualified installer should check the connection for leaks using an appropriate method. Do not use the dryer if a leak is suspected.
- Operation: Samsung describes a 30-second Time Dry functional check. Confirm that the dryer starts and runs, produces heat, and shuts off as expected under the model’s instructions.
- Vent: Run the model’s vent-blockage test as directed. It is intended to identify a blocked duct or another venting problem; it does not verify gas-line safety.
- Stability: Confirm that the dryer sits firmly on the floor and is level, adjusting its feet according to the manual.
Samsung notes that air in a gas line can delay burner ignition. Its guide says that if the gas does not ignite within five minutes, turn the dryer off and wait five minutes, verify that the gas supply is on, and check exhaust heat to confirm ignition. Follow that advice only within the exact appliance manual’s instructions. Stop and get qualified help if ignition fails, behavior is unusual or you are unsure; suspected gas leaks require immediate safety action.

What should you do if you smell gas?
Samsung’s safety guidance says: “Do not try to light or turn any appliance and do not touch any electrical switch.” Clear the room, building or area of occupants. From a safe distance, call the gas supplier; if you cannot reach the supplier, call the fire department. Do not operate the dryer or attempt to troubleshoot the connection. Samsung’s Home Appliance Terms and Conditions provide this gas-smell instruction.

Gas or electric: does the choice change installation?
For a gas dryer, the installation must account for a gas line as well as grounded electrical power and an outdoor exhaust. The exact outlet and vent specifications depend on the model. A comparison with an electric dryer should start with the hookups already available at home, the work needed to add or change them, local utility rates and the specific models’ efficiency and venting requirements. Samsung says operating-cost differences depend on local utility rates and usage, while drying-time differences vary by model, efficiency features and venting setup.
