To preorder a game collector’s edition safely, buy from the publisher’s official store or verify that another retailer is authorized to sell that edition in your region. Before paying, confirm the exact contents and platform, read the seller’s cancellation and return rules, check payment and delivery terms, and save your order records. A release-date estimate is not a guarantee of release-day delivery.
1. Choose a seller you can verify
A publisher’s store is a direct purchase route. If you use another retailer, verify that it is authorized to sell the game in your territory; there is no universal authorization list that covers every publisher, game, and region. Do not assume that a marketplace listing is official just because it uses the publisher’s artwork or edition name.

For a marketplace or reseller, check who the actual seller is, whether the item is truly a preorder or already in hand, its condition, stated delivery commitment, and return terms. The publisher’s store policies may not apply to a third-party sale.

Compare the retailer’s page with the publisher’s official listing. Check the game title, platform, exact edition name, region, release date, total price, and every included item. Separate physical contents—such as a statue, art book, or steelbook—from digital entitlements, which may have platform or regional restrictions. A reseller’s description alone is not enough to establish what is included.

3. Read the seller’s cancellation and return rules before checkout
Preorder rules depend on the seller, region, product, and sometimes the point at which order preparation begins. Check the current policy for the store and item you are buying, and note any deadline in your calendar. Also check whether a collector’s edition must be returned as a complete bundle and whether the physical product has to be unopened.
These store-specific examples illustrate why you should not assume a common rule:

| Bandai Namco Entertainment Store | Its FAQ says a preorder can be cancelled until eight days before the release date. It says eligible refunds or exchanges for a bundle or Collector’s Edition generally require all components to be returned. | Confirm the current product page and the store’s current return terms for your order. Bandai Namco Store shipping and order information |
| Ubisoft Store, United States | US Terms of Sale last updated September 2024 say accepted orders are generally final, non-cancelable, and non-refundable except as allowed by the terms or a returns policy. For a physical pre-purchase, the terms describe a 30-day-before-release cutoff for cancellation once order preparation begins. | Verify the current US terms and the applicable returns policy before ordering; these terms are not a global rule. | Square Enix Store, North America | Its terms say accepted orders are generally final, non-cancelable, and non-refundable except as expressly provided in the terms or a separate returns policy. | Read the current terms for the relevant North American store and item. Digital preorder rules are a separate case. PlayStation Store US refund eligibility for digital preorders can depend on when the preorder was placed and whether the main content has been downloaded or preloaded. Payment
Retailers do not all use the same payment schedule. Before ordering, find out when the charge is taken and whether a temporary payment authorization can expire before the final charge. Check how the seller will notify you if a payment fails, and keep your payment method and account email current.

Shipping
Review the shipping cost, method, delivery estimate, destination address, and any signature or delivery requirements. Bandai Namco says it tries to deliver on or near the street date but does not guarantee arrival on that date; location and shipping method can affect timing. Ubisoft’s US terms describe delivery timeframes as estimates. In both cases, check the terms that apply to your own location and order rather than treating a general estimate as a promise.

Save the order confirmation and receipt, along with a copy or screenshot of the listing and the relevant cancellation and return terms. Keep the order number and any support correspondence. Ubisoft describes sending an order confirmation message and email; Bandai Namco says street-date changes are reflected on the product page after an official announcement. Check your account and email for seller updates, and retain the records in case the listing or order details change.

- When payment is taken and how failed charges are handled
- Cancellation deadline and any order-preparation cutoff
- Return eligibility and requirements for complete bundles or unopened items
- Shipping method, delivery estimate, and any stated guarantee
