That is ordinary charging—not necessarily battery bypass. Only use battery-bypass behavior when the manufacturer documents it for your exact model and operating mode; otherwise, do not remove the battery or connect a bench supply to its terminals.
What “direct power” means on an Android phone
A phone connected to a charger normally receives power while also charging its battery. That does not mean the phone has bypassed the battery: bypass is a separate, device-specific feature that routes charger power to the system while reducing or pausing battery charging.

For a general-purpose handset, the supported starting point is a compatible USB charger and cable through the usual charging port, with the battery installed. The charger’s stated wattage alone does not establish that the phone will run indefinitely under every workload.

When Samsung’s documented bypass feature may work
Samsung’s Gulf support page, last updated June 25, 2026, describes Pause USB Power Delivery as routing power to the system instead of charging the battery while gaming or using a resource-intensive app. It lists selected Galaxy models, requires a compatible PPS charger rated at 25 W or higher, and requires the battery to be at least 20% charged. Check the current support page for your exact model and region before relying on the feature.

Samsung UK’s page, updated February 6, 2024, describes the feature as operating only while games are running, with a PD charger connected and battery charge at 20% or higher; it says the feature turns off when gaming ends. The page lists S23, S22, Tab S8, Flip5, Flip4, Fold5, Fold4, A23, A33, A53, A73, and M33 families. Because regional documentation and supported models can differ, confirm the current local listing rather than assuming every Galaxy device has the feature.
Pick a charger using your phone maker’s requirements
There is no single Android-wide voltage or wattage recommendation for all phones. Google’s Pixel guidance recommends a PPS power adapter rated at 30 W or more, or another USB Power Delivery adapter rated at 15 W or more; actual charging speeds vary by Pixel model. Samsung’s 25 W-or-higher PPS requirement applies to the documented Pause USB Power Delivery scenario, not to every Samsung charging situation or every Android phone. A compatible PPS charger does not add bypass support to a phone that lacks the feature.

Set up ordinary charging and check common problems
- Look up your phone maker’s charging guidance for the exact model, then choose a compatible adapter and cable.
- Connect the cable to the phone’s normal charging port and leave the battery installed.
- If charging is slow or does not start, check the cable, adapter, and port; try a compatible charger and cable. Android Help notes that unsupported or damaged accessories can charge slowly or not at all. Android Help: Fix an Android device that won’t charge or turn on
- If the battery is fully depleted and the phone cannot start, a low-current or non-standard power source may not provide enough current to meet consumption during startup, according to Huawei’s support guidance. Use the device maker’s recommended accessories rather than treating a generic supply rating as proof the phone will start. Huawei support
Why removing the battery is not a generic solution
AOSP’s batteryless-device guidance concerns products whose hardware and software are designed for operation without an internal battery. For Android 9 and later, when no battery device is detected, charger types default to offline if the system does not detect a Linux power_supply class charger device. AOSP recommends that always externally powered products implement a kernel charger driver or configure the AC charger’s online property through the Health HAL. This explains platform integration for device makers; it does not establish that a typical consumer handset will run reliably after its battery is removed. AOSP: Support batteryless devices

Battery removal and internal power connections also involve model-specific service and electrical requirements. Google advises Pixel owners not to remove a battery themselves and recommends an authorized repair partner. If the phone needs opening, the battery is damaged, or you need a permanent externally powered installation, consult the manufacturer or an authorized service provider for that exact model.
