You can play Xbox games on a compatible Samsung TV without owning an Xbox console by streaming them through the Xbox app in Samsung Gaming Hub. Open the app, sign in with a Microsoft account, connect a compatible controller, and choose a cloud game. The game runs on remote servers and streams to your TV.
What you need before you start
- A supported Samsung TV: Gaming Hub is available on select Smart TV models from 2022 onward, but supported models and services differ by region. Samsung’s US and Canada pages describe availability differently, so check your exact TV model and whether the Xbox app appears in its app store. Samsung’s Canada Gaming Hub page confirms that supported cloud gaming services can let you play without a console or gaming PC.
- Internet access: Samsung recommends a connection of at least 20 Mbps. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee of smooth play; latency, Wi-Fi conditions, and service demand can affect the experience. Samsung’s Gaming Hub guide notes that service quality varies with the internet environment.
- A compatible controller: The Xbox app requires a supported Bluetooth controller, sold separately. Samsung lists Xbox controllers among compatible examples, but support depends on the TV and controller model. Check current compatibility details for your set.
- A Microsoft account and game access: You’ll need a Microsoft account, and some Xbox app features require an Xbox profile. Cloud play may require a subscription or other title-specific access. Gaming Hub itself is free, but that does not mean every game is free.
How to start playing
- Check your TV’s model and region for Samsung Gaming Hub and the Xbox app. If the Xbox app is missing, check the TV’s app store and Samsung’s compatibility information for your model.
- Connect the TV to the internet, then open Gaming Hub from the Home or Smart Hub interface.
- Open the Xbox app and sign in with your Microsoft account. Follow any prompts to set up an Xbox profile if needed.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth controller with the TV. Use the TV’s Bluetooth device settings if the app does not prompt you to pair one.
- Choose an available cloud game and follow the on-screen instructions. Review any subscription or access prompts before launching it.
How the no-console setup works
Gaming Hub is the TV interface; the Xbox app is the route to Xbox Cloud Gaming. The TV receives a video stream from remote servers and sends your controller input over the internet. It does not install and run the Xbox game locally, and you do not need an Xbox console in your home for this cloud-streaming route.

Samsung also lists services such as NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna in Gaming Hub. Those are separate services; their presence does not provide access to Xbox games.

Games, subscriptions, and regional availability
Do not assume that every Xbox game is available to stream or that one subscription tier covers every title. Samsung’s Xbox app listing distinguishes free Fortnite access from subscription-dependent cloud gaming and cautions that catalog, device, and regional availability can vary. Check the selected game’s current terms in the app. The catalog and access requirements can change over time.

Samsung’s June 20, 2025 announcement of EA SPORTS FC 25 named Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for that specific offering. It is a dated example, not evidence that the same tier is required for every cloud game today.

Cloud gaming avoids buying console hardware, but it depends on a reliable internet connection and the availability of the cloud service. Samsung recommends at least 20 Mbps, yet meeting that figure alone does not ensure low latency or uninterrupted play. The Xbox app listing also warns that streaming has limitations and that server availability and wait times may vary.

If the Xbox app or a particular game is unavailable for your TV or region, an external Xbox console is a separate option—but it is no longer the no-console setup, and local console play should not be assumed to have the same catalog or latency as streaming.
