On mobile, the game is designed around its investigation software and touch interaction—not direct control of an agent. This guide explains the supported controls, how to approach a case, and what official sources do and do not establish about progression.
What you do in The Operator
Cases involve crimes such as murders, missing-person investigations, and cyberattacks. Field agents request support while you examine evidence, fact-check details, search records, and follow leads. The official Google Play description says, “Each case will have evidence to evaluate, and it’s your job to dig into documents, connect the clues, and solve the mysteries.” Google Play’s listing also names the investigation tools you use.

- Video and Photo Analyzer: inspect visual evidence.
- Citizen and Vehicle Database: search records about people and vehicles.
- ChemScan: query evidence using the in-game analysis tool.
- Notepad: keep track of details and possible connections.
- Terminal: use the computer interface where a case calls for it.
The game’s warning about not entering unauthorized areas without notifying superiors is part of its fictional setting, not real-world investigative guidance.

- Read the agent’s request. Identify the specific question or uncertainty the agent needs help with.
- Review the evidence and documents provided. Look for details that answer that question rather than assuming the case premise proves anything.
- Open the relevant tool. Use the visual analyzer for images or video, the databases for record searches, ChemScan for an evidence query, and the Notepad to record connections. Use the Terminal when the case points you there.
- Compare what you find. Track names, dates, and contradictions so a lead is supported by more than a guess.
- Report the best-supported finding to the agent. Continue with any new requests or leads that follow.
Mobile controls: what is documented
Bureau 81 announced the mobile release on October 1, 2026, describing it as “Reworked to fully support a mobile interface.” The official store descriptions say to “Tap through” the FDI tools, supporting a touch-oriented interface for opening software and examining evidence. See Bureau 81’s Steam mobile announcement.
The sources do not provide a complete gesture map or specify particular swipes, long-presses, dragging, zooming, or keyboard controls. Avoid relying on any specific gesture unless the current game or store documentation confirms it.

Can you use a controller?
The US Apple App Store listing marks the game as controller-supported and says compatible PlayStation, Xbox, or MFi controllers can be used. Treat this as an optional control method, not a requirement: the store descriptions themselves emphasize tapping through the software. The Apple statement does not establish compatibility for every Android device or every phone-controller combination, so check pairing and device support before buying. Apple’s US listing
Cases and progression
The official listings describe multiple cases, evidence evaluation, field-agent requests, and a story that develops as you follow leads. They do not establish a dependable total case count, complete case order, save behavior, unlock requirements, or exact progression triggers. In particular, there is no official basis here for claiming that a specific action unlocks a particular later case.

These are storefront details that can change, and meeting a listed minimum OS does not guarantee identical performance on every device. Check the current listing on your phone or tablet before installing.
