Sony says users of that console can then play purchased and downloaded games while it is offline. This does not make online multiplayer or server-dependent modes work without a connection.
Set up your PS5 for offline play
- While online, sign in to the PlayStation account that owns the game. Download and install the game, then check that it appears in the Game Library and is ready to launch. For a missing purchase, check the account’s transaction history. PlayStation’s transaction-history instructions explain how to review purchases.
- Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. On the PS5 you intend to use offline, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then choose Enable. PlayStation Support says the feature lets users of that console play purchased and downloaded games when it is offline: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5. It may already be enabled on the first PS5 you signed in to.
- Test the game before you lose access to the internet. Launch it once while online and check which parts require a connection. The console setting does not guarantee that every game mode works offline.
- Disconnect only after setup is complete. Start the game from the console as usual. Any online multiplayer, server-based mode, or feature that checks in with a service will still need a connection.
Know which games and modes can work offline
Games you bought
For a purchased digital game, the relevant checks are whether the correct account owns it, the download is complete, and Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the intended PS5. Sony’s guidance covers purchased and downloaded content; it does not certify offline access for every title or mode.

PlayStation Plus games
Plus access has additional conditions: the subscription must remain active and the game must still be available through the service. Check the title’s availability in PlayStation Plus before relying on it offline. Membership and catalog terms can change, and the general console-sharing instructions do not list offline requirements for individual games.

A game may launch offline while some features do not. Single-player content may be available without a network connection, whereas online multiplayer and server-dependent features require one. Check the game publisher’s official support information for the specific title and mode.

Why a PS5 game may show a lock or fail offline
- Wrong account: Sign in with the account that purchased the game, or make sure the purchasing account has enabled Console Sharing and Offline Play on that shared PS5.
- Incomplete download or missing purchase: Confirm the game is fully installed and ready to launch. If the purchase is missing, review transaction history for the owning account.
- Console sharing is disabled on this PS5: Verify the setting under Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- License check needs refreshing: Restore the game’s licenses using the steps below. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect your data.
- Service or software issue: If activation or license checks still fail, check PlayStation Network service status and install current PS5 system software before trying again.
- Plus access has changed: For a subscription game, confirm the membership is active and the title remains available in the service.
Restore a game license
- On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Select the relevant game license and choose Restore. Sony also documents restoring a license from the game’s options menu.
- Try launching the game again. For Sony’s full instructions, see Restore licenses on PlayStation.
Moving offline access to another PS5
Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on one PS5 at a time for an account. If you can use the old console, disable the setting there before enabling it on the new one. If the old console is inaccessible, use PlayStation account management to deactivate devices remotely; Sony limits remote deactivation of all devices to once every six months. Menu wording may vary by locale or system software version. Sony’s general guidance explains the console setting and license steps, but it does not provide a complete list of offline-compatible games or modes.
