Try the regular Survival game with a Java or Bedrock trial
Minecraft’s official free-trial page describes both trials as offering approximately 100 minutes of in-game play—about five in-game days. The trial includes core Survival activities such as crafting, exploration, and combat. The time is a product limit, not a promise of unlimited access, and it may vary slightly by device.

Platform availability differs between editions. Use the official trial page to choose Java or Bedrock for your supported device and follow its current download instructions. The page says you can play offline or over LAN, but online multiplayer servers are disabled. The reviewed information does not establish whether trial progress transfers to a purchased copy, so do not count on that.
Play Minecraft Classic in a browser
If you want a browser-accessible option rather than a timed trial, Minecraft Help lists Minecraft Classic as “The original, free-to-play version of Minecraft!” It is a separate option from the Java and Bedrock trials. The official listing does not compare its features with the current editions, so treat it as its own experience rather than assuming it includes everything in today’s full game.

Use Minecraft Education for lessons
Demo lessons without an account
Minecraft Education’s demo lessons are available without an account and provide access to a selection of lessons. They are restricted: worlds and progress cannot be saved, multiplayer hosting and joining are unavailable, and you cannot create or load custom worlds.
Trial for eligible academic accounts
A fuller Education trial requires an academically verified Microsoft Entra ID account, such as an eligible Office 365 Education or Microsoft 365 Education account. The Education support article lists 25 sign-ins for teachers with an Office 365 Education account and 10 for other users; trial logins cannot be refreshed. These terms are for Education accounts, not a general consumer version. Check the current support page for eligibility and limits before relying on them.
