You can play the PSP game Fate/EXTRA on a PC with PPSSPP, a PSP emulator. Install PPSSPP, provide your own game file in ISO or CSO format, then open that file in the emulator. The game is not included with PPSSPP, and this guide does not provide game downloads.
What you need to play Fate/EXTRA on PC
- A PC running a supported PPSSPP build.
- PPSSPP, downloaded from the official PPSSPP website.
- Your own lawful copy of Fate/EXTRA in a PSP game-file format PPSSPP supports: ISO or CSO. PPSSPP does not distribute the game.
Fate/EXTRA was released for PSP. Its English manual describes saving to a Memory Stick Duo; PPSSPP represents the PSP Memory Stick as a folder on your computer rather than requiring PSP hardware.

Install PPSSPP and open your game file
- Install PPSSPP. On Windows, the project offers an installer and a portable ZIP. Follow the PPSSPP getting-started guide for your operating system.
- Locate your ISO or CSO file. Use a game file you have obtained lawfully. PPSSPP will not download or provide Fate/EXTRA for you; its FAQ explains that users supply their own PSP games.
- Load the game. In PPSSPP, browse to the folder containing the file and select it to launch. If it does not appear, check that you opened the right folder and selected a supported ISO or CSO file.
PPSSPP’s Introduction to PPSSPP says, “Generally, the defaults should be fine, unless you want to set up controllers and so on.” You can try the default configuration before changing settings.

Choose and configure your controls
Keyboard and gamepad are both options. A controller is not required; choose based on what you already own and find comfortable. Windows builds of PPSSPP support XInput and DirectInput gamepads, according to the project’s FAQ. That documents support for those input interfaces, not a guarantee for every controller or computer.

For what each PSP button does in the game, consult the controls section of the official English Fate/EXTRA manual. PPSSPP maps those PSP inputs to your keyboard or controller; the manual describes the game’s controls, not a PC keyboard layout.
Save game progress and back it up
There are two different kinds of saves. Use the game’s own save option for regular progress; PPSSPP save states are separate emulator snapshots, useful as an extra convenience but not a replacement for an in-game save.

On Windows and macOS, use File → Open Memory Stick in PPSSPP to open the emulated Memory Stick folder. On other platforms, the getting-started guide points to Settings → System → Show Memory Stick folder. Copy important save data to another location for backup, taking care to preserve the folder structure.
The PPSSPP system settings documentation says version 1.20 supports up to 30 configurable save-state slots. This is a version-specific state-slot limit, not a limit on ordinary in-game save files. Save-state backup options can help preserve earlier snapshots, but enabling backups adds work during save and load operations.

If the game does not run as expected
- Confirm the file and region. Make sure you selected the intended Fate/EXTRA ISO or CSO and that it is a supported game file.
- Undo changes you made. If you altered emulator settings, PPSSPP’s system settings include an option to restore defaults. Return to a default configuration before troubleshooting further.
- Check compatibility reports cautiously. PPSSPP’s compatibility pages include community reports for regional releases: Japanese version 1.01 and US version 1.00 are marked “Perfect,” while a European page includes a Windows 64 report marked “Playable” on PPSSPP 1.13.1. These are reports for particular versions and configurations, not a promise that every current PC setup will behave identically.
If the issue persists, note your game region and revision, PPSSPP version, operating system, and any settings you changed before seeking help. A report for a different release or an older emulator build may not match your setup.
