To rebroadcast an event replay continuously as a YouTube Live stream, play a local video file in an encoder such as OBS, enable its Loop setting, and send the encoder feed to YouTube Live using your stream URL and key. A replay published after a broadcast is different: it is an ordinary channel video, not a live stream that loops automatically.
Replay video or continuous YouTube Live stream?
After a live stream ends, a channel may post a replay or highlights. That replay is a video viewers can watch on the channel; it does not automatically start a new live broadcast or repeat continuously. To rebroadcast footage as live, you need a live encoder that plays the recording and sends it to YouTube Live.
Before you start: eligibility and rights
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also sets 16 as the minimum age for live streamers. If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete setup well before the planned broadcast.
Clear the footage and every included element
Use event footage, music, graphics, and other material that you have permission to stream. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. It may show a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. YouTube’s live-stream terms also require providers to hold necessary rights and comply with applicable laws and territorial requirements.

Prepare the replay file
Save a video file you have rights to rebroadcast on the computer running OBS. Check that it plays correctly from beginning to end before configuring the stream.

Add it as an OBS Media Source and enable Loop
In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the local replay file. Turn on Loop in the source properties. OBS will restart playback when the file reaches the end. This repeats the video inside the scene; by itself, it does not send anything to YouTube.

Create or open the live stream in YouTube Studio
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the URL and key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel.

Choose settings your connection can sustain
Use the current encoder recommendations shown in YouTube Live Control Room and choose a quality that fits your reliable upload connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Selecting the highest resolution without enough stable upload capacity can lead to dropped frames or interruptions; a lower, sustainable setting is better than a nominally higher-quality feed that repeatedly fails.

Test before the event and monitor the broadcast
Start the encoder feed ahead of the intended start, check the watch page and stream health, and verify that the video and audio play as expected. Monitor stream health while live so you can respond to connection or encoding problems.

Check the archive after the stream
YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours. After the broadcast ends, check the channel for the replay and its playback. A longer stream is outside that automatic-archive rule, so do not assume it will be archived in the same way.
OBS software or a dedicated hardware encoder?
OBS is a software route that can loop a local media file. YouTube also documents standalone hardware encoders as an option. A dedicated encoder is not required just to loop a replay; consider one only if your production setup or equipment needs justify it. The available guidance does not establish a particular hardware model, minimum computer specification, or India-specific purchase recommendation.

Common problems and fixes
- The replay ends instead of starting again: Check that Loop is enabled on the OBS Media Source, rather than assuming YouTube will repeat the source.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the OBS stream settings use the URL and key for the intended stream in Live Control Room. If live streaming was just enabled, allow for activation, which can take up to 24 hours.
- The stream buffers, drops frames, or becomes unstable: Choose a more sustainable quality for your reliable upload connection, then test and check stream health before and during the broadcast.
- The stream shows a warning, placeholder, or interruption: Review the footage and included audio or other content for rights issues. A licence alone may not prevent a Content ID interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel.
- No replay appears after the broadcast: Check whether the stream was under 12 hours; YouTube’s automatic archive rule applies to streams shorter than 12 hours.
