Deadlock is won by destroying the opposing team’s Patron. To get there, learn a repeatable loop: collect Souls from Troopers, use them to strengthen your hero, keep your lane advancing, and join your team when it is ready to take objectives. Secondary goals such as the Soul Urn and Mid-Boss can help, but they do not replace the push to the Patron.
Deadlock remains in early development, and access is invite-limited according to Valve’s Steam listing. Names, mechanics, rewards, and lane assignments can change, so treat exact in-game details as provisional and check the current build.

What should you focus on first?
Start by understanding the lane and the Trooper wave around you. The described setup has three lanes with two players initially assigned to each, though lane names and assignments may change between updates. Stay close enough to collect Souls, avoid leaving a teammate exposed, and resist chasing a low-probability fight if it costs you a wave.

How do Souls work?
Souls are both a progression resource and the currency used to buy items. Troopers release Soul orbs when they die. Collecting those orbs consistently helps you level up and purchase items, giving you more strength for later fights and objective pushes.
For a beginner, the practical priority is to collect the orbs rather than focusing only on who dealt the final damage to a Trooper. Reliable farm builds your hero over time; a risky chase that makes you miss a wave can cost more than it gains.

How do you deny Souls and build lane pressure?
Once you are reliably collecting your own Souls, watch for fallen allied Troopers. The strategy guide describes shooting an allied Trooper’s Soul orb to prevent opponents in the lane from collecting it. Denial is an extra way to affect the resource exchange, not a substitute for securing your own farm.
Defeating enemy Troopers also helps move the lane forward and build map control. Keep an eye on the allied wave: its position is part of what makes an attack on a structure safer or riskier.

When should you attack lane objectives?
Lane structures are steps toward the enemy base and ultimately the Patron. They are not isolated targets to attack whenever you see them. Before committing, consider whether your Troopers have pushed forward, whether nearby teammates can help, and whether opponents can punish your team elsewhere. Avoid pushing deeper structures without lane pressure; check the current game for how backdoor protection works.
The strategy guide identifies Souls, map control, and extra slots among the benefits associated with lane objectives. Those gains help a team build toward its next push, but the exact rules and rewards can change with updates.

How should you choose between a push, a rotation, and a secondary objective?
Rotating means moving to help a teammate or respond to a developing opportunity elsewhere on the map. It can turn an early advantage into a safer push, but leaving a lane also creates an opening. Use these questions to weigh the choice:
- Is the lane ready? A forward allied Trooper wave can support pressure on the next structure.
- Can your team act together? Consider whether teammates can join, and what may be left undefended if you move.
- Is the reward worth the exposure? Contesting an objective takes time and can expose your team to a fight or a push elsewhere.
- What does the move enable next? Prefer actions that create a safer follow-up push or useful map pressure over an isolated objective with no clear continuation.
The Soul Urn and Mid-Boss are secondary map objectives. They can provide a strategic boost or help a team hold or reverse an advantage, but they are not victory conditions on their own. Their exact timing and rewards are update-sensitive, so use the live game to judge the current opportunity rather than relying on a fixed schedule.

What is the end goal?
Every lane push, rotation, and objective should support the same outcome: advancing as a team until you can destroy the opposing Patron. As the match develops, keep farming when it is safe, help teammates when a rotation can change the map, and look for a coordinated opportunity to push. Winning a secondary objective matters because of the advantage it creates—not because it ends the match.
What is Deadlock’s current access status?
Valve’s official Steam listing describes Deadlock as “a multiplayer game in early development” and says access is currently limited to friend invites through playtesters. That is the listing’s current status statement, not a promise about when the game will be generally available; check it for changes.
Some gameplay details can shift as well. The community-maintained strategy page was last modified August 29, 2025, while mechanics and Souls references include a reported September 16, 2026 Soul change. Because those details are version-sensitive, this guide avoids fixed Soul values and objective timings.
