How to Play ARC Raiders: Beginner Tips for Surviving Your First Raids

In ARC Raiders, a successful raid means more than finding loot: you must survive threats from both ARC machines and other Raiders, then extract with what you collected. For your first runs, keep the goal simple: deploy with a manageable loadout, learn a route, avoid fights that do not benefit you, and leave before a risky extra stop costs you the haul.

ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with solo and squad play. Its basic loop is deploy, search, survive, and extract—but the other players and hostile machines make every step a decision about risk.

How a raid works

  1. Deploy: Choose a loadout you can afford to risk. A June 17, 2026 beginner guide recommends Free Loadout runs for learning routes and extraction timing without risking permanent stash gear. It describes the loadout as including a main weapon and ammunition, bandages, a shield recharger, and utility items. Contents can change with patches, so check the live game before relying on a specific item.
  2. Search: Look for useful loot and items you need, but avoid treating every container as worth the time or noise it creates.
  3. Survive: Watch for ARC machines and other Raiders. Decide whether to move, hide, or fight based on what the encounter could cost and what you might gain.
  4. Extract: Leave with loot you value before greed or a dangerous route puts it at risk. Finding an item is not the same as keeping it; its value depends on making it out.

How to move without giving away your position

Manage sprinting and stamina

Do not sprint continuously just because you can. The beginner guide says that briefly walking lets stamina recover, while holstering your weapon while traveling can increase movement speed. Heavy carried loads can slow movement and drain stamina faster. Exact controls and balance may vary by game build, so check the current control settings and in-game descriptions.

Pause to listen

Audio can reveal activity nearby: footsteps, gunfire, looting, shield recharging, and abilities may give away another player’s presence. Your own sprinting and looting can also make you easier to notice. Listen before entering a contested area or committing to a fight. Headphones or stereo speakers may help you hear details, but use what you already have; no particular headset is established as necessary.

Which loot should you prioritize?

When space or time is limited, prioritize quest items and rare components over common crafting materials, as the beginner guide advises. If the game’s current inventory rules allow it, secure especially valuable finds in the Safe Pocket before taking a risky route or encounter. Check the item descriptions and current mechanics in-game: inventory rules can change between patches.

When should you fight—and when should you leave?

Avoid combat when the likely reward is not worth the ammunition, health, time, and attention it may cost. If you do engage, use cover and a favorable position rather than accepting an open duel. A fight can attract attention from both machines and other Raiders, so account for what might arrive while you are occupied.

Extraction is a choice, not a demand to fill every backpack slot. If you already have worthwhile loot, consider leaving rather than making one more stop. Before approaching an exit, scout the approach and listen for signs of danger. A smaller haul you successfully extract is better than a larger one lost before you get out.

Should beginners play solo or in a squad?

There is no universally best choice. Squads can offer backup, revives, and help covering an extraction, but they also require coordination. Solo play gives you room to practice independently without coordinating with teammates. The beginner guide suggests solo Free Loadout runs as one way to learn maps; choose based on whether you value backup or a quieter practice experience.

A simple plan for your first raids

  • Use a Free Loadout to practice if you want to avoid risking permanent stash gear; confirm its current contents in-game.
  • Pick a modest objective, such as learning a route or finding a needed item, rather than trying to collect everything.
  • Move deliberately, manage stamina, and listen before entering exposed or busy areas.
  • Skip fights that offer little potential benefit, and use cover if you must engage.
  • When you have loot worth keeping, scout your extraction approach and leave rather than taking an unnecessary risk.
