You can use an Android tablet for gaming in four ways: play Android games directly, stream a game from a PC with Steam Link, play from Xbox Cloud Gaming where it is available, or remotely access games installed on your Xbox console. The right setup depends on where the game runs, what services and devices you have, and whether the game supports your preferred controls.
Choose where the game will run

Steam Link and Xbox Remote Play stream from hardware you provide; Xbox Cloud Gaming runs games on Microsoft’s service. Cloud gaming and console Remote Play are different routes, even when they let you play Xbox games on the tablet.

Play Android games directly on the tablet
Install a game that supports your tablet and choose touch controls or a compatible controller. Controller support varies by game, so check the game’s listing or settings before relying on a gamepad. This option does not require a separate PC or console to run the game.
Stream PC games with Steam Link
Steam Link connects an Android tablet to a computer running Steam and streams a game from that computer; it is not a cloud gaming service. Valve lists Android 5.0 and later phones, tablets, and TVs as supported. Its description is direct: “Use Steam Link to connect your device to a computer that’s running Steam.” Valve’s Steam Remote Play page has the current details.

- Install Steam Link on the Android tablet.
- Make sure the computer you want to use is running Steam and is available to host the game.
- Open Steam Link and follow its prompts to connect the tablet to that computer.
- Choose a game and test the controls you plan to use. Game compatibility and the quality of the connection affect the experience.
Play through Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games from Microsoft’s service rather than from your own console. Availability depends on the supported device, region, subscription, and current game catalog. Xbox says Android 12 or later is supported, but eligibility and catalog details can change. Check Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox’s supported regions before setting up.
Xbox recommends “5GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data with speeds of 20Mbps or higher.” This is a recommendation, not a guarantee of smooth play; actual streaming quality can vary with the connection and conditions. Check the current service requirements and game availability for your region and subscription.

Use Xbox Remote Play from your console
Remote Play streams games installed on your own Xbox console, rather than running them in the cloud. Enable remote features on the console and make sure the game you want to play is installed. Xbox describes the requirements and setup on its Remote Play page.

A compatible Bluetooth controller or a wired controller can work with many Android devices, but compatibility depends on both the tablet and the game. Xbox says controllers connect to most compatible devices by Bluetooth or wired connection. Some Xbox cloud games also provide touch controls. If you use a separate controller, a tablet stand may make the setup easier to position, but it is optional. Do not assume a phone-mounted telescopic controller will fit a tablet: the Razer Kishi V2 Pro details reviewed here describe phone compatibility, not tablet fit.
