During an active YouTube live stream or Premiere, the channel owner can pin a chat message by opening its More menu and choosing Pin. You can pin your own message or a viewer’s, but only one creator-pinned message can be active at a time. A viewer’s paid Super Chat is different: it is highlighted by the purchase and does not need to be pinned to appear prominently.
Pin a chat message while the stream is live
On desktop
- Open the live stream or Premiere and its live chat window.
- Find the message you want to keep visible. It can be your own message or a viewer’s.
- Open the message’s More menu and select Pin.
- To remove the pin without replacing it, open More on the pinned message and select Unpin. Pinning a different message replaces the existing pin.

On mobile
- Open the active stream in the YouTube app and locate the message in live chat.
- Tap More beside the message, then tap Pin.
YouTube documents the mobile steps as part of its live-streaming guidance; the message may be yours or a viewer’s. The same one-pin limit and channel-owner permission apply.
Super Chat and a pinned message are different
A Super Chat is a message a viewer pays to highlight. Its color and time at the top of chat depend on the purchase amount. A creator pin is a separate action by the channel owner to keep one selected chat message pinned. YouTube says creator-pinned messages appear below Super Chats, so you do not need to pin a paid message to make it stand out.

Who can pin, and why a Super Chat may be unavailable
YouTube identifies the channel owner as the person who can pin or unpin messages. Moderators can help manage chat, but cannot pin messages. Depending on their role, moderators can remove messages, put users in timeout, hide users, or review held messages. Managing moderators have additional chat settings but do not have access to Live Control Room or YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s live chat moderation guidance and moderator tools for computer.

If the person operating a continuous stream is only a moderator, arrange for the channel owner to be available when a pin needs changing. That is an operational consequence of YouTube’s role permissions, not a separate platform requirement.

Pinning and Super Chat eligibility are separate issues. Super Chats and Super Stickers require an eligible creator and eligible stream. YouTube lists creator location and compliance with fan-funding requirements and terms among the eligibility factors. Super Chats are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos, and when live chat or comments are turned off. What changes on a 24/7 stream
The pin control is a live-chat action; YouTube’s documentation does not say that it stops working after a particular stream duration. Long-running streams do have separate replay and rewind limits: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers that a 24/7 stream will have a complete replay or a full rewind window.
