Choose Security with Password during setup; Samsung identifies the T7’s protection as AES 256-bit hardware encryption. Security is optional, and you’ll need the password to unlock the drive after connecting it.
Important: If you forget the password, Samsung says restoring the drive to factory settings through its customer-service process may be necessary. That reset erases all data on the T7.

Before you start: check the model and compatibility
This guide is for the standard Samsung Portable SSD T7. Samsung lists optional password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption for that model. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Samsung’s T7 specifications

Samsung lists Windows 7 or later, Mac OS X 10.10 or later, and Android Lollipop or later as compatible platforms for the T7. That general compatibility does not guarantee Security Mode works in every setup: Samsung says support for Security Mode depends on supported OS versions. How to enable password protection on the T7

Connect the T7 to your computer and open Samsung Portable SSD Software 1.0. It may not start automatically; if needed, open the installed application from your desktop or the applications location on your computer.

Follow the setup prompts and accept the terms. Samsung says components of the software are installed on the computer for Security Mode.

On the welcome or setup screen, select Security with Password. Do not leave Security Mode off if you want password protection. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your password and finish setup.

After setup, disconnect and reconnect the T7 to confirm the lock screen appears. Enter your password and choose UNLOCK to access the protected data.
Samsung’s manual does not establish a specific password length or character-complexity requirement. Follow the requirements shown in the software rather than relying on an assumed rule.

What happens when the T7 is locked?
When Security Mode is enabled, you must enter the password and select UNLOCK after connecting the drive to access its protected data. If it remains locked, only the small security/software partition is visible; your protected files are not accessible until you unlock the drive.

What to do if you forget the password
Samsung warns that a forgotten password may require restoring the T7 to factory settings through its customer-service process. The factory reset erases all user data on the drive. Treat the password as essential: keep it somewhere secure and separate from the T7. Do not assume Samsung can recover the password or preserve the files through a reset. Which Samsung software should you use?
The T7 manual names Samsung Portable SSD Software 1.0 for configuring Security Mode. Samsung’s support page lists newer downloads, including Magician, but the listing alone does not establish that Magician is the correct replacement for the T7’s password-setup software. Follow the T7-specific manual and the instructions supplied for your model rather than assuming a newer utility supports the same setup. Samsung T7 support page
