To use the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C wirelessly with Windows, move its rear mode switch to 2.4G, plug the included 2.4G USB receiver into the PC, and press Home on the controller. A solid status LED confirms the connection. The manual lists Windows 10 (version 1903) or later as the requirement. You can also connect the controller with a USB cable.
What you need before pairing
The Ultimate 2C’s documented Windows wireless method uses its dedicated 2.4G radio and USB receiver. It is not the Bluetooth procedure shown for Android in the manual. Before starting, have the following ready:

Pair the Ultimate 2C wirelessly over 2.4G
Follow these steps in order. The receiver must be connected to the PC, and the controller must be in its 2.4G mode.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
- Check Windows. Confirm that the PC runs Windows 10 version 1903 or later, the system requirement stated by 8BitDo.
- Set the mode switch. Turn the switch on the rear of the controller to the 2.4G position. On the re-pairing procedure, the manual refers to this same position as PC/2.4G.
- Connect the receiver. Insert the included 2.4G adapter into a USB port on the Windows PC.
- Turn on the controller. Press the Home button.
- Check the LED. Wait for the controller’s status LED to remain solid. The manual identifies a solid LED as the successful-connection indication.
Once the LED is solid, the documented pairing sequence is complete. Keep the receiver connected while you play wirelessly; the Windows method described by the manual is receiver-based rather than Bluetooth-based.
What the LED tells you
| LED behavior | Meaning documented for this procedure | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Solid controller status LED | The controller is connected successfully. | Use the controller in Windows. |
| Rapidly blinking controller LED during recovery | The controller is waiting for the receiver re-pairing step. | Connect the 2.4G adapter, as described in the re-pairing sequence below. |
| Solid LEDs on both controller and receiver after recovery | The controller and adapter have paired successfully. | Use the wireless connection. |
The manual does not assign additional Windows meanings to every possible blink pattern. If the expected solid indication does not appear, repeat the documented sequence rather than treating an unlisted pattern as a separate operating mode.
Use the controller with a USB cable
A wired connection is the simplest alternative when you do not want to use the receiver or when the wireless link needs to be restored.

The manual documents the solid LED as the successful wired-connection indication too. Wired mode does not require the 2.4G adapter to be connected for the controller-to-PC connection.
Re-pair the controller if the receiver connection is lost
If the controller and adapter stop communicating, 8BitDo’s recovery procedure pairs them again in a specific order. Do not connect the adapter first during this recovery sequence; the manual places that step after the controller enters pairing mode.
- Move the rear switch to the PC/2.4G position.
- Press Home to turn on the controller.
- Press and hold the controller’s Pair button for three seconds.
- Release the button when the controller LED begins blinking rapidly.
- Connect the 2.4G USB adapter to the Windows PC.
- Wait until both the controller LED and the receiver LED become solid.
Solid LEDs on both parts are the manual’s confirmation that re-pairing succeeded. If they do not become solid, repeat the sequence from the mode-switch step, making sure the Pair button is held for the full three seconds and that the adapter is connected only after rapid blinking starts.

Wireless versus wired: which Windows connection should you use?
| Factor | 2.4G wireless | USB wired |
|---|---|---|
| Connection hardware | Included 2.4G USB receiver. | USB cable. |
| Controller setting | Rear switch in the 2.4G or PC/2.4G position; press Home. | Connect the controller to the PC by cable. |
| Windows procedure | Plug in the receiver, turn on the controller, and wait for a solid status LED. | Connect the cable, wait for Windows recognition, and check for a solid status LED. |
| Receiver required | Yes. | No receiver is needed for the documented wired connection. |
| Convenience | No controller cable during play, but the receiver must remain available and connected. | A cable runs between the controller and PC. |
| Latency or performance advantage | Not established by the manual. | Not established by the manual. |
Choose 2.4G when you want the documented wireless setup and have the receiver available. Choose USB when a cable is acceptable or when you need a direct fallback while troubleshooting the receiver. The supplied documentation does not provide a latency comparison, benchmark, or claim that one method performs faster than the other.
Bluetooth: what the manual does and does not support on Windows
The Ultimate 2C manual includes Bluetooth pairing instructions for Android, but its Windows instructions use the 2.4G receiver. It does not document pairing this controller to Windows over Bluetooth. Therefore, do not place the switch in another mode or use Windows Bluetooth settings expecting that to be the supported procedure described for this model.
For a Windows connection covered by the manual, use either the 2.4G receiver or a USB cable. If you need a different wireless method, verify the exact model’s current documentation rather than assuming that instructions for another 8BitDo controller apply to the Ultimate 2C.

Firmware and Ultimate Software V2
Firmware can affect connection behavior, but the version number is not permanent. When checked for this guide, 8BitDo’s support page listed Ultimate 2C Wireless firmware v1.09, whose release notes included enhanced 2.4G connection stability. The page directs users to Ultimate Software V2 for firmware updates.
- Open the official 8BitDo support page.
- Locate the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller support entry.
- Check the currently listed firmware version and its release notes.
- Use the linked Ultimate Software V2 instructions if an update is available for your controller.
Do not treat v1.09 as the controller’s permanently latest version; firmware listings can change. Check the support page at the time you update. The available documentation points to the official software and does not establish a need for paid software or a third-party updater.
Troubleshooting the Windows connection
The status LED never becomes solid
First verify the basic wireless sequence: the rear switch must be in 2.4G, the receiver must be connected to the PC, and Home must be pressed to turn on the controller. Then wait for the solid LED indication. If the connection remains unavailable, use the manual’s re-pairing procedure rather than trying Bluetooth: hold Pair for three seconds until rapid blinking starts, then connect the receiver and wait for both LEDs to become solid.

The receiver connection worked before but was lost
Loss of an established link is the specific case covered by 8BitDo’s re-pairing instructions. Set the switch to PC/2.4G, turn on the controller with Home, hold Pair for three seconds, and connect the receiver only after rapid blinking begins. Successful recovery is shown by solid LEDs on both the controller and receiver.
Windows does not recognize a wired controller
Check that the cable is connected at the controller and PC, then wait for Windows recognition as the manual instructs. The controller’s status LED should remain solid when the wired connection is successful. If it does not, reconnect the cable and repeat the recognition check. The supplied documentation does not provide a separate Windows driver-installation procedure.
You are following Bluetooth instructions
Stop and confirm that the instructions are for the Ultimate 2C’s Windows setup. The manual’s Bluetooth directions are for Android, while the Windows wireless directions are for the 2.4G adapter. Switch back to the documented receiver procedure or connect by USB.

You are unsure whether an update is needed
Check the official support listing rather than relying on an old version number. Firmware v1.09 was listed when the support page was checked and included a 2.4G stability improvement, but 8BitDo may publish a newer version. Use Ultimate Software V2 only through the official support guidance.
A repeatable setup checklist
- Windows is version 10 (1903) or later.
