How to Pair Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones

Put your Bose headphones in pairing mode, then select them in your device’s Bluetooth settings. Button sequences and prompts vary by model.

Put your Bose headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode, then open Bluetooth settings on your phone, tablet, computer, or TV and select the headphones. The exact button and voice prompt depend on the model, so check its name before following a button sequence.

How do I pair my Bose headphones?

For most models, pairing follows the same pattern: make the headphones discoverable, then choose them from the Bluetooth menu on the device you want to use. Bose app setup is also available for supported models, but direct Bluetooth pairing works for the QuietComfort models described below.

Bose QuietComfort Headphones (sold from 2023)

  1. Hold the power switch toward the Bluetooth icon until the Bluetooth light blinks blue. If you are wearing the headphones, the voice prompt says “Ready to connect.”
  2. To pair directly, open Bluetooth settings on your phone, tablet, computer, or other device and select the headphones. Apple devices list them under “Other Devices”; Android devices list them under “Available Devices.”
  3. For app-guided setup, open the Bose app, tap the plus button on the My Bose screen, choose “Headphones and Frames,” select your headphones, and follow the prompts.

Bose’s QuietComfort Headphones pairing instructions cover both setup paths.

Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen)

  1. Slide the Power/Bluetooth switch forward toward the Bluetooth symbol and hold it for three seconds, until you hear the “Discoverable” tone and the status light blinks blue.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on the device you want to connect, then select the headphones from its available-device list. A connection prompt plays and the light glows solid blue briefly when the connection succeeds.

For app setup after the headphones are set up in the Bose app, go to Source, then Bluetooth, then Add New. This model stores up to eight devices and can actively connect to two at once, but plays audio from one device at a time, according to Bose’s second-generation QuietComfort instructions.

Why won’t my Bose headphones connect?

  • Check Bluetooth and restart. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the source device, then restart both it and the headphones and try pairing again.
  • Remove stale pairings. If an old or duplicate Bose entry is saved, remove it from the source device’s Bluetooth list. For the QuietComfort Headphones covered by Bose’s instructions, power on the headphones and hold the Power/Bluetooth switch toward the Bluetooth symbol for 15 seconds to clear the headphones’ device list, then pair again.
  • Check Windows entries. Choose the headphone- or speaker-icon listing rather than “LE” if Windows displays two options.
  • Reduce distance and interference. Bose recommends staying within 33 feet (10 meters). Walls, doors, appliances, and other wireless devices can reduce range.
  • Test another source device. Bose support says, “If your Bose Headphones can connect to another device, Bluetooth functionality is working.” That helps distinguish a headphone issue from a problem with the original source device.
  • Use the procedure for your model. If pairing still fails, follow that model’s reset or reboot instructions. Bose notes that resetting the QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) resets controls and reboots the headphones without clearing saved device settings; clearing its Bluetooth device list is a separate procedure.

The proximity guidance and second-generation reset distinction appear in Bose’s QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) support instructions and QuietComfort Headphones troubleshooting guidance.
