Yes. The original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller works with Switch 2. To pair it wirelessly, open Controllers > Change Grip and Order from the HOME Menu, then hold the controller’s SYNC button for at least one second. Switch 2 must be powered on; pairing does not work while the console is asleep.
Pair the Pro Controller wirelessly
- Turn on Switch 2 and open the HOME Menu. The console cannot pair a controller while it is in sleep mode.
- Select Controllers, then Change Grip and Order.
- While that screen is open, press and hold the SYNC button on the original Pro Controller for at least one second.
- When pairing completes, the player LED for the controller’s assigned number stays lit.
Nintendo’s pairing instructions describe this procedure for the Pro Controller.
Connect it through the dock instead
If you prefer a wired setup, place Switch 2 in its dock and connect the Pro Controller to the dock with the included USB cable, model HAC-010. Nintendo also lists a USB connection to the dock as a way to charge the controller. This method requires the dock and cable; wireless pairing does not.
Nintendo documents both connection methods in its pairing instructions and its Switch and Switch 2 compatibility guidance.

If the controller will not pair
- Check that Switch 2 is awake and on. Pairing cannot happen while it is in sleep mode.
- Update the console. Nintendo recommends installing the latest system update when troubleshooting a Pro Controller pairing problem.
- Confirm the controller model. The original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is model HAC-013. For a third-party controller, contact its manufacturer for help.
- Restart the console and retry wireless pairing. If you were attempting a USB connection, try another USB port on the dock or another cable, then try wireless pairing if USB still fails.
- Check the player LEDs. If they briefly illuminate in sequence and then turn off, Nintendo’s button guidance says to pair the controller with the console. If none light, the controller may have no charge.

Nintendo confirms the original Switch Pro Controller is compatible with Switch 2, but software and controller compatibility can vary. Do not assume every game supports every controller feature. Nintendo’s Pro Controller FAQ says the console can connect up to eight wireless controllers, while noting that the actual number depends on controller type and features.

Nintendo’s FAQ also estimates about six hours for a full charge and about 40 hours of battery duration when fully charged. These are Nintendo’s estimates; battery duration can be shorter depending on the software and functions used. See the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller FAQ for those figures.
