To pair a new DualSense controller for the first time, turn on your PS5, connect the controller to the console with a USB cable, then press the controller’s PS button if it is off. The light bar blinks and the player indicator lights up when pairing is complete. Once the controller has enough charge, you can unplug it and use it wirelessly.
Pair a new DualSense controller with USB
- Turn on your PS5.
- Connect the new DualSense controller to the console with the included USB cable.
- If the controller is off, press its PS button.
- Wait for the light bar to blink and the player indicator to light up. The controller is paired; unplug the cable when it has enough charge for wireless use.
Sony’s first-time setup instructions use a USB connection. If you do not have the included cable or it is unsuitable, use a compatible replacement USB cable that supports data, not just charging. Check the connector and data capability before choosing one.

Pair an additional controller wirelessly
If another controller is already paired and working, you can use it to add the new controller without connecting it by USB.

- On the working controller, open Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories.
- On the new controller, make sure the player indicator is off. If it is on, hold the PS button until it turns off.
- Hold the new controller’s Create and PS buttons together until it appears in the Bluetooth Accessories list.
- Use the working controller to select the new controller in the list. Its light bar blinks and its player indicator lights up when pairing is complete.
If the PS5 does not pair the controller
Reset the controller, then reconnect it to the console by USB:

- Turn off the PS5.
- Disconnect the controller’s USB cable.
- Use a pin or similar tool to press and hold the recessed reset button on the back of the controller for at least five seconds.
- Connect the controller to the PS5 by USB and press the PS button.
If it still will not connect, update the PS5 system software if possible. If the problem continues, contact PlayStation Repairs support.
Using a controller with another PS5
A DualSense controller can be paired with only one PS5 console at a time. If you move it to a different PS5, pair it with that console again. A PS5 supports up to four controllers in use simultaneously.
