To connect a Logitech mouse, first check the underside of the mouse and the receiver for a Bluetooth, Unifying, Logi Bolt, or other receiver marking. Logitech uses different wireless systems, and receivers are not universally interchangeable. Then pair it using the matching method below.

Identify how your Logitech mouse connects

Check the mouse’s underside for a connection logo and the USB receiver for its markings or model number. Logitech distinguishes standard 2.4 GHz receivers, Unifying receivers, and Logi Bolt receivers; a receiver that fits a USB port is not necessarily compatible with your mouse. See Logitech’s receiver identification and troubleshooting guide.

If the mouse supports Bluetooth, you can pair it without a USB receiver. Some models also support a specific Logitech receiver. The available choices depend on the exact mouse model, so check its markings and model-specific support information before choosing a method.

Pair the mouse using the matching method

Bluetooth

  1. Turn on the mouse and use its connect or channel control to put it into pairing mode. The exact button sequence varies by model.
  2. Open Bluetooth settings on your computer and select the mouse when it appears in the list of available devices.
  3. Follow any on-screen prompts. If it does not appear, consult the support instructions for the exact mouse model and try pairing mode again.

Logitech confirms that some Logi Bolt devices can connect using Bluetooth Low Energy as well as a Logi Bolt USB receiver. Bluetooth availability and the pairing controls vary by model; see Logitech’s Bolt connection guidance.

Logitech M510 Full Size Ambidextrous 2.4 GHz Wireless Mouse
  • Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
  • You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
  • Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
  • The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.

Unifying receiver

Use this method only if the mouse bears the Unifying logo and the receiver is Unifying-compatible. Logitech says one Unifying receiver can pair with up to six Unifying devices.

  1. Connect the Unifying receiver directly to the computer.
  2. Open Logitech’s Unifying pairing software and follow its prompts to begin pairing.
  3. When prompted, turn the mouse off and back on.
  4. Move the mouse to check that the cursor responds.

Logitech’s Unifying receiver support page notes that its Unifying Software and Connection Utility are no longer supported or maintained and recommends Logi Options+ for supported devices. Check whether your particular mouse is supported before relying on that app. Logitech’s separate Unifying connection instructions describe the pairing workflow.

Fix a Logitech mouse that will not connect or keeps disconnecting

Try the basic checks first, then repeat the pairing process that matches the mouse and connection method.

  • Check power: Charge the mouse or replace its batteries, then switch it off and on.
  • Check the connection: If you are using a receiver, plug it directly into a working computer USB port rather than a hub or extender. Try another port if needed.
  • Reduce interference: Move the receiver closer to the mouse and away from metal surfaces or likely radio-frequency interference sources.
  • Try the appropriate pairing steps again: A receiver moved between ports or computers, or connected to an unsupported device, can be associated with connection problems.

Logitech lists low batteries, receiver placement, metal surfaces, and radio-frequency interference among possible causes of a lost connection. Its mouse and keyboard connection troubleshooting guide covers these checks.

Logitech M705 Marathon Full Size 2.4 GHz Wireless Mouse - Black
  • Click more. Scroll more. Do more. Logitech Marathon Mouse M705 uses far less power than comparable wireless mice from other companies. That means you can go up to three full years between battery changes.*
  • Hyper-fast scrolling lets you fly through long documents and Web pages with a single spin of a nearly frictionless metal scroll wheel.
  • The sculpted, right-hand shape guides your hand to a naturally comfortable position and places customizable control within your reach. Two thumb buttons lets you move quickly between Web pages.**
  • The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There's no need to unplug it when you move around, so there's less worry of it being broken or lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
  • Laser grade tracking delivers smooth, responsive, precise cursor control on surfaces that cause problems for standard optical mice, such as polished or wood-grain tables.***

If Unifying pairing fails

Check whether the mouse appears in your computer’s device list, confirm the receiver is connected directly rather than through a hub or extender, and try another USB port. If you were pairing through a USB 3.0 port, Logitech suggests trying a USB 2.0 port. Then repeat the Unifying pairing workflow. See Logitech’s Unifying troubleshooting guidance.

Choose a replacement receiver carefully

Before buying a replacement, identify the mouse’s connection system and confirm that the specific mouse can pair with the receiver. A Unifying receiver is for Unifying-compatible devices; do not assume it will work with a Logi Bolt mouse or a standard 2.4 GHz mouse. Logitech’s receiver guide identifies receiver types and provides a replacement-receiver path. Verify compatibility for your exact mouse model before purchasing.
