Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo pair a JBL speaker with your phone, turn on the speaker, put it in Bluetooth pairing mode, then open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the speaker from the available devices. Most JBL models enter pairing mode with a quick press and release of the Bluetooth button; some require you to hold it. If a speaker you’ve already paired will not reconnect, check whether another phone is connected before resetting anything.
Pair a JBL speaker with your phone for the first time
- Turn on the speaker.
- Start Bluetooth pairing mode. Press and release the speaker’s Bluetooth button. On some models, you need to hold the button instead. A pairing sound or blinking indicator may signal that the speaker is ready.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone and make sure Bluetooth is switched on.
- Select the JBL speaker from the available devices. If it does not appear, check that the speaker is still in pairing mode and scan again.
Button behavior varies by model. If the usual Bluetooth-button step does not work, look up the instructions for your exact speaker in JBL Support’s Bluetooth pairing and connecting guide or the speaker’s manual.

Charge 5 example
For the JBL Charge 5, the quick-start guide shows pressing its Bluetooth/power button once, turning on Bluetooth on the phone, and selecting “JBL Charge 5” in Bluetooth settings. That sequence is specific to the Charge 5; use your own model’s instructions if its buttons or behavior differ. The Charge 5 quick-start guide also mentions the JBL Portable app for speaker configuration and software upgrades.

- Ultra-portable JBL Pro Sound with punchier bass: Don't let its little size fool you. The JBL Go 4 packs a serious musical punch. Your friends won't believe how much great JBL Pro Sound comes out of such a small speaker.
- Up to 7 hours of playtime plus 2 hours with Playtime Boost: Don't sweat the small stuff like charging your battery. JBL Go 4 gives you up to 7 hours of playtime on a single charge. Tap Playtime Boost to add up to 2 more hours to your battery life.
- Waterproof and dustproof: The JBL Go 4's IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating ensures this portable speaker can handle almost any environment, from a poolside party to a seaside picnic.
- Multi-speaker connection by Auracast: Want even bigger JBL Pro Sound? Pair two Go4s for stereo sound, or wirelessly connect multiple JBL Auracast-enabled speakers using Auracast for even bigger sound.
- Made in part with recycled materials: The JBL Go 4 incorporates post-consumer recycled plastic and fabric for the speaker grille. It's also packaged in FSC-certified paper printed with soy ink.
If it still will not connect, another phone may already be connected. Some JBL speakers allow only one connected phone at a time. Disconnect the other phone from the speaker or switch off Bluetooth on that phone, then try again on the phone you want to use.
If your JBL speaker does not appear or connect
Work through the least disruptive checks first. A factory reset should not be the opening step: JBL warns, “Do NOT reset your speaker every time you want to connect.” A reset erases saved phone pairings, so you will have to pair those phones again.

- Wireless Bluetooth streaming
- 12 hours of playtime
- IPX7 waterproof
- Pair multiple speakers with party boost
- Premium JBL sound quality
- Check the basics. Make sure Bluetooth is on at the phone, the speaker is powered on, and the speaker is in pairing mode.
- Move the phone closer to the speaker, then scan for available devices again. JBL’s PartyBox On The Go 2 manual recommends moving devices closer when Bluetooth reception is poor.
- Check for another connected phone. Disconnect it or switch off its Bluetooth, then select the speaker on your intended phone.
- Restart both devices. Restart the phone and speaker, put the speaker back in pairing mode, and try the pairing process again.
- Use the exact model’s manual if you cannot get the speaker into pairing mode. Button behavior differs across JBL models.
- Consider a reset only if the problem persists. Follow the reset instructions for your exact model; the process varies, and saved phone pairings will be erased. JBL’s Bluetooth pairing and connecting guidance cautions against resetting as a routine way to connect.
Fix Bluetooth dropouts or distorted audio
If the speaker connects but audio drops out or sounds distorted, JBL’s recommendations for PartyBoost or Connect+/Stereo Boost setups focus on distance and competing connections. Try these steps:
- Move the phone or other audio source closer to the speaker, and bring linked speakers closer together.
- Make sure the host speaker is not connected to multiple audio sources at once.
- Make sure the audio source is not connected to multiple streaming-speaker hosts.
- Restart the audio source and speakers, then pair them again.
- Reduce nearby wireless interference where possible.
- If only internet-streamed audio fails, check the internet connection; the cause may be the stream rather than the Bluetooth link.
These recommendations are from JBL’s guidance for dropouts and distortion while using PartyBoost or Connect+/Stereo Boost.

Connecting two JBL speakers is a separate setup
Pairing your phone to one speaker is different from linking two speakers together. With compatible PartyBoost speakers, JBL’s setup guidance is to connect the phone to one speaker, start playback, then press the PartyBoost button on the speakers. Compatibility depends on the speaker family and model:
- PartyBoost Stereo mode requires two speakers of the same model. Different models may support Party mode only.
- Connect and Connect+ models cannot be paired together, and neither family can be paired with PartyBoost models.
Do not assume these rules apply to every JBL speaker family. Check the manual for both models before expecting Party or Stereo playback. See JBL’s PartyBoost setup and compatibility guidance for the documented PartyBoost rules.
