To pair most Fire TV remotes, insert batteries and turn on the Fire TV device; pairing usually happens automatically. If it does not, move within 10 feet (3 m) of the device and hold Home for about 10 seconds, then follow the on-screen prompt. If the remote still will not connect, work through the battery, restart, and model-specific reset steps below.
Pair a Fire TV remote during setup
Amazon says a remote normally pairs automatically when you insert its batteries and turn on your TV. If you do not see the pairing prompt or the remote does not respond, try these steps in order. Amazon’s pairing instructions specify staying within 10 feet (3 m) of the Fire TV device.

- Move the remote within 10 feet (3 m) of the Fire TV device.
- Hold Home until the on-screen message “Press Play/Pause to start” appears. This takes about 10 seconds.
- If that does not work, remove the batteries, wait 30 seconds, reinstall them, and hold Home again.
- Try a fresh pair of AAA alkaline batteries, then hold Home again.
- If the remote remains unpaired, use the reset procedure for its model or generation, then try pairing again.
- Unplug Fire TV from power for five seconds, reconnect it, and try again.
Amazon says a Fire TV device can have up to seven controllers paired at once. If that limit has been reached, remove a controller before adding another. You can also use the Fire TV app as an alternate way to control the device or follow Amazon’s app-specific pairing steps. See Amazon’s Fire TV remote pairing page.

Add a second or replacement remote
If you have a working remote
On Fire TV, open Settings > Controllers & Bluetooth Devices > Amazon Fire TV Remotes > Add New Remote. Insert batteries in the new remote and select it if it appears. If it does not show up, hold Home for 10 seconds. Amazon’s steps are at Pair Another Fire TV Remote.

Fix common connection problems
The remote is slow or does not respond
Remove and reinstall the batteries to ensure they are seated correctly. If the problem continues, replace both with a fresh pair of AAA alkaline batteries rather than mixing an old battery with a new one. Amazon’s battery guidance is at Replace the Batteries in Your Fire TV Remote.
