Choose a fold for the pants and suitcase
Suit trousers: follow the creases
Lay the trousers flat, smooth the fabric gently, and align the legs along their original creases. Fold without adding extra bends where possible. Victorinox recommends folding trousers in thirds for a carry-on and in quarters for a checked suitcase; Alaska Airlines also recommends a triple fold for one pair. Several pairs of suit trousers: stack and roll
For two or three pairs, Alaska Airlines suggests stacking the trousers and rolling them from the hems toward the waistbands. This is an alternative for multiple pairs, not evidence that rolling prevents wrinkles better than folding. Alaska Airlines
Casual pants: try the suitcase-edge fold
REI describes a method that uses the suitcase edge to reduce extra folds: put the upper half of the pants inside the case and let the legs hang over the edge. Stack the other garments, then fold the legs back into the suitcase at the knees. REI presents this approach for pants and dresses. REI

Consider fabric and optional packing aids
REI advises looking for garments described as wrinkle-resistant and notes that synthetic fabrics are generally easier to care for than cotton. That is general care guidance, not a guarantee that any particular pair will arrive wrinkle-free. REI
A packing folder may help clothing look pressed while traveling, according to REI; a lightweight packing cube can help organize clothing. Neither guarantees wrinkle-free pants. What these methods can—and cannot—promise
