Pack the Nintendo Switch 2 switched off in a well-fitting case, with Joy-Con 2 attached when using Nintendo’s dedicated carrying case. Keep game cards, cables and other loose items in their own holders or pockets so they cannot rub against or press on the screen. Choose a larger case if you are bringing the dock for TV play, and keep the packed system away from liquids, excessive force and temperature extremes.
Choose a case that fits the trip
Match the case to what you intend to carry. A case’s listed features describe its layout and materials; they are not proof of drop protection. Nintendo also cautions that its carrying-case products cannot completely prevent screen scratches or other damage.

Before choosing, compare console fit, whether the controllers stay attached or are stored separately, screen coverage, room for the dock and cables, secure game-card storage and the overall case size.

Pack the console and accessories step by step
- Switch the console off. Nintendo’s instructions for its dedicated carrying case say: “Do not leave the console switched on while it is stored in the carrying case.” See the carrying-case instructions.
- Check for grit. Make sure the screen and the inside of the case are free of grit before packing. Nintendo includes a cleaning cloth with its case and describes using it to remove fingerprints and smudges; it does not claim that the cloth prevents damage.
- Follow the case’s controller layout. For Nintendo’s dedicated case, keep Joy-Con 2 attached. Nintendo’s leaflet specifically says to store the console with its controllers attached. For a different case designed for detached controllers, use their intended recesses or compartments to keep them from knocking against the console.
- Secure small and hard items separately. Put game cards in their holder and accessories in designated pockets. Do not place a loose hard object where it can press against the display. This is practical packing advice, not a Nintendo-tested loading protocol.
- Coil cables loosely. Avoid pulling on them or twisting them tightly. Nintendo’s health and safety booklet warns against both.
- Close the case without forcing it. If the contents make the case bulge or put pressure on the console, remove items or choose a larger case. Nintendo warns against excessive force, but does not specify a tested loading limit for travel cases.
Protect the system from its surroundings
Nintendo’s safety booklet warns against liquid contact and high or extremely low temperatures. It also says: “Do not expose devices to fire, microwaves, direct sunlight, high or extremely low temperatures,” and “Do not let devices come into contact with liquid and do not use them with wet or oily hands.” Keep the packed console and accessories dry, out of direct sunlight and away from temperature extremes.

Joy-Con 2 connect magnetically, and Nintendo cautions users not to apply force to connection parts. Handle controllers gently when attaching or removing them, and avoid packing accessories in a way that presses on the connection points.

Ordinary travel packing and repair shipping are different. For an item sent to Nintendo for inspection, its repair packaging guidelines say to detach controllers and accessories, remove game cards and microSD Express cards, wrap items in protective packaging and fill box gaps so contents stay secure. Follow those instructions for a repair shipment; do not substitute them for Nintendo’s carrying-case instructions for everyday travel.
