How do I organize saved links so I can find them later?
Build a small retrieval system, not a perfect filing cabinet. The best category is the one you will remember when you need the link. A practical routine has four parts:

- Capture: Save links in one predictable place, such as a default folder or an inbox folder. Avoid stopping to invent a detailed category every time you save a page.
- Triage: Periodically move useful links into a few broad folders, such as Work, Learning, Reference, or Personal. Add subfolders only when you repeatedly need to separate items within a category.
- Add clues: Keep a meaningful page title. When a link could fit several folders, add one or two specific tags if your tool supports them. A short note in the words you expect to search later can help too.
- Find and prune: Search by the title, website, URL, or subject you remember. Delete links that no longer serve a purpose, and check sync and export options before trusting a service as the only home for important links.
There is no established ideal number of folders or tags. Keep the structure as simple as you can while still making your common searches easy.

Can browser bookmarks do the job?
Often, yes. Browser bookmarks are a sensible starting point if you mainly need to save pages and retrieve them by a recognizable title, site, or folder. Their precise features vary by browser.

Chrome
Chrome supports bookmark folders, sorting, moving bookmarks, and a bookmarks bar. To search bookmarks from the address bar, enter @bookmarks, then type a word or phrase. See Google’s Chrome bookmark instructions for the documented steps.
Firefox

Folders or tags: which should I use?
Use folders for the broad home of a link and tags for useful cross-cutting descriptions. For example, a reference page could live in a “Work” folder and also carry a “tax” tag if it may be useful in more than one context. If tags are unavailable, a short folder structure is enough; do not create a second filing system you will not maintain.

- Choose tags when an item belongs to multiple topics or you want to filter across folders.
- Add a note when the title does not capture why the link matters. Write the phrase you would expect your future self to search for.
What if I saved a link but can’t find it?
Search with the most distinctive clue you remember, then broaden the search. Try the page title or a fragment of it, the website name, a URL fragment, and the subject. Check likely folders and any general inbox or unsorted location. If you recently changed browsers or profiles, confirm you are looking at the same profile where you saved it.

Search scope differs by tool. Chrome documents keyword search for bookmarks. A dedicated manager may search more fields: Raindrop.io says bookmarks can be found by name, URL, or content, and documents filters and searchable notes. Its help center explains its bookmark features. Do not assume that every browser searches the contents of saved pages.
When is a dedicated bookmark manager worth using?
Consider one if browser bookmarks feel limiting because you want tags and notes across devices, filters, or search that reaches saved-page content. Choose based on the retrieval problem you actually have. If you mostly need a searchable list of pages, a browser may be enough. If you need overlapping labels, notes, or content search, a manager may justify the extra account and service dependence.
How do I make saved links available on my other devices?
Check that you are using the intended browser profile and that sync or account storage is enabled before relying on cross-device access. Chrome’s guidance explains saving bookmarks to a Google Account when configured, accessing them on other devices, and keeping profiles separate. It also describes an optional passphrase for synced Chrome data. Review Google’s Chrome sync instructions and confirm the settings on the devices you use.

For any bookmark manager, check its account, sync, and export or backup options before making it the sole location for a valuable collection. Feature availability may depend on the service or plan.
What happened to Pocket?
Pocket is no longer a current option for saving links. Mozilla announced on May 22, 2025, that Pocket would shut down on July 8, 2025; its stated export deadline was October 8, 2025. Both dates have passed. Mozilla said data would be permanently deleted after the export window, so old Pocket instructions should not be treated as evidence that the service is still available. See Mozilla’s shutdown announcement and consult current Mozilla support information if you are looking for old saves; recovery should not be assumed.
