Choose a Breville espresso machine by deciding how much of the coffee-making work you want to do yourself. The Bambino needs a separate grinder; the Barista Express and Express Impress build one in, with the Impress adding tamping guidance; the Touch Impress and Oracle Jet add more automated milk and drink workflows. The specifications below come from Breville’s US comparison pages, accessed in 2026—not hands-on tests or independent assessments of taste or reliability.
Which Breville espresso machine should you buy?
Start with the parts of the routine you want to handle: grinding and dosing, tamping, milk texturing, and choosing drink settings. A built-in grinder reduces the number of appliances, but it does not remove the need to adjust the grind. Assisted tamping and automatic milk texturing can make the workflow more guided, but manufacturer features do not establish that one machine makes better-tasting espresso.

Sources for this table: Breville US comparisons for the Barista Express Impress and Bambino, Oracle Jet and Barista Express, Oracle Jet and Barista Touch, and Barista Touch Impress and Bambino, accessed in 2026. A missing dimension or capacity in a cited comparison is not evidence that the product lacks it.
Is the Bambino or Barista Express better for home?
They suit different counter and workflow priorities. The Bambino is narrower in the listed dimensions and has no integrated grinder, so plan for a separate grinder if you want to grind beans at home. The Barista Express occupies more listed counter space but combines the machine and grinder; you still adjust the grind and handle milk texturing manually.
Choose based on your available space and willingness to manage a separate grinder, rather than assuming that an integrated grinder guarantees a better cup. Breville lists a 47 fl oz reservoir for the Bambino and a 67 fl oz tank for the Barista Express in the cited US comparison pages.

Do you need a built-in grinder?
No. It is a convenience choice. The Bambino has no integrated burr grinder, while the Barista Express, Express Impress, Touch Impress, and Oracle Jet include grinder-equipped workflows in the cited comparisons. A separate grinder means another appliance and its own counter space; an integrated grinder keeps the setup more consolidated but still requires grind adjustment on the models described here.
Breville lists 16 settings for the Barista Express, 25 for the Express Impress, 30 for the Touch Impress, and 45 for the Oracle Jet. Those counts describe adjustment options, not a directly comparable measure of espresso quality or a guarantee that more settings will suit your beans or preferences better.
What do tamping and milk automation change?
Tamping and dosing
The Bambino and Barista Express leave puck preparation to the user; the Express Impress adds assisted tamping and dose-level feedback. The Touch Impress also has assisted tamping. The Oracle Jet lists automatic grinding, dosing, and tamping. These distinctions indicate how much guidance or automation the listed workflow offers, not a measured improvement in extraction.
Rank #3
- MANUAL HAND-TEXTURED MICROFOAM: The powerful steam wand on this cappuccino maker and latte machine is designed to quickly turn milk into smooth, flavorful microfoam for creating latte art at home
- PRECISE DOSE GRINDING: Integrated precision conical burr grinder on bean-to-cup espresso machine grinds on demand to deliver correct amount of freshly ground coffee directly into portafilter for your preferred taste with any roast of bean

Milk texturing
The Bambino, Barista Express, and Express Impress use manual milk texturing in the cited specifications. The Touch Impress and Oracle Jet offer hands-free Auto MilQ texturing; Breville lists settings for dairy and several alternative milks for the Touch Impress. If you prefer to control milk texture yourself, the manual options may fit better; if you want the machine to take on more of that step, compare the automatic models’ regional specifications and instructions.

Is the Barista Touch Impress worth the extra cost?
That depends on the price difference where you live and whether its added convenience matters to you. Its touchscreen, presets, saved custom drinks, assisted tamping, and hands-free milk texturing move more of the routine into a guided workflow than the Bambino’s button controls and manual milk texturing. Compared with the Express Impress, the notable workflow distinction is automatic rather than manual milk texturing, alongside touchscreen drink controls.
The cited material does not establish a current price, promotion, or independent performance advantage, so it cannot support a universal value verdict. Compare live local prices and decide whether those specific features are worth paying for in your routine.
