To open the secret cave in Mortal Shell 2, pick up the Makeshift Projectile in the Outskirts of Mammon, load it into the nearby catapult, and fire it toward the rock face by Castigator’s Keep. Then travel to the keep and descend to the lower platforms to reach the opening. Walkthroughs call the dungeon inside the Alchemist’s Workshop.
Where to find the Makeshift Projectile
- Travel to the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon and follow the route toward the southern cliffs.
- Continue past Vlas and look beneath the stone bridge near the cliff edge. The Makeshift Projectile is in this area.
- Pick it up, then return toward the beacon and the catapult nearby.
The projectile’s location and the catapult’s position near the Outskirts beacon are described in walkthroughs by Nerd’s Chalk, AllThingsHow, and Nerd’s Chalk’s Alchemist’s Workshop guide.

How to use the catapult and reach the cave
- At the catapult, load the Makeshift Projectile and fire it toward the distant rock face near Castigator’s Keep. The shot opens a passage in the rock.
- Fast-travel to Castigator’s Keep.
- From the beacon area, descend to the wooden platforms below the keep and follow the cliffside route to the new opening.
- Enter the passage to reach the Alchemist’s Workshop.
The catapult route is the method consistently described across the walkthroughs. AllThingsHow also reports that striking the exterior illusory wall can open the entrance without firing the projectile; treat this as an alternate method, since the other guides focus on the catapult.

What to look for inside the Alchemist’s Workshop
The dungeon contains a Synaptic Vessel, a Clockwork Shardstone, and Glimpse pickups. Guides differ on the Glimpse count and where each is found: one describes four in an upper room and another behind a separate illusory wall, while another summarizes five across the broader route. Check side passages and hidden walls rather than assuming every Glimpse is in the same room.

The Clockwork Shardstone is also reported as a reward in the dungeon, though guides differ on its exact pickup location: one associates it with a lower-cave mini-boss encounter, while another notes reports of a chest at the bottom. The available walkthrough accounts do not establish a single precise location.
A hidden wall inside the workshop
Do not confuse the exterior entrance opened by the catapult with the illusory wall inside the workshop. One walkthrough describes a book-lined wall within the dungeon that must be struck to reveal an interior passage.
