What “God Mode” is in Windows 11
“God Mode” is a nickname used by Windows how-to guides for a special File Explorer view. It is not a separate edition of Windows, an administrator account, a hidden security bypass, or a switch that grants extra permissions. The result is a single window containing shortcuts to many Control Panel tasks and system-management pages.

The folder works because the text after the period is a Windows class identifier, or CLSID. Explorer recognizes that identifier as a shell namespace junction point and displays the associated system view instead of treating the item as an ordinary folder. Microsoft Learn describes the general mechanism this way: “The simplest approach is to create a folder in the appropriate location and append a period to the folder’s name, followed by the string form of the CLSID of your extension.”

The exact folder name you need
The complete name, including the word, period, braces, hyphens, and every letter and number, is:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
- Prefix:
GodMode. You may use another label, such asAll Tasks, but this is the familiar name. - Separator: one period immediately before the opening brace.
- CLSID:
{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}, including both braces.
Capitalization of the prefix is not important to Explorer, but copying the full string exactly avoids typographical mistakes. Do not add a file extension, quotation marks, or a space between the prefix and the period.
How to create and open the folder
- Choose a location. The desktop is easiest to reach, but you can use Documents or another local folder. The location does not change which tasks appear.
- Create an ordinary folder. Right-click an empty area, choose New, and select Folder. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+N in File Explorer.
- Rename it immediately. With the new folder selected, press F2, or right-click it and choose Rename.
- Enter the complete name. Type
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Make sure the period before the opening brace is present and that the final character is the closing brace. - Commit the change. Press Enter or click elsewhere. The ordinary folder icon should change to a Control Panel-style icon or another system icon. The visible label may no longer show the full CLSID.
- Open the view. Double-click the renamed item. File Explorer should display a long list of Control Panel tasks rather than an empty folder.
If you created the item on the desktop, you can open it there. If you used File Explorer, press Enter after renaming and then double-click the item in the same window. No reboot, registry edit, installation, or administrator approval is required to create the junction point.
Finding a task once the view opens
The list can be much longer than a normal Control Panel page, so searching is usually faster than scrolling.
- Click the search box in the upper-right corner of File Explorer, or press Ctrl+E to move focus to Explorer’s search field.
- Enter a plain-language term such as
mouse,power,backup,fonts,network, orfirewall. - Read the matching task names and double-click the one you need.
Search terms match the labels Windows exposes in this view, so a task may use different wording from the question in your head. For example, searching for “screen” may reveal display-related Control Panel entries, while “account” may expose user-account management links. If a search produces no result, try a shorter synonym or browse the list sorted by name.

You can change the presentation with File Explorer’s View menu. Details view is useful when you want a compact alphabetical list; larger icon views make individual links easier to recognize but consume more space. The commands launched from the list still use the permissions and policies of your Windows account.
What appears in the list
The view groups Windows management links into categories such as:

- Appearance and personalization controls
- Devices, printers, mouse, keyboard, and other hardware settings
- Network and sharing configuration
- Power and mobility options
- Security and maintenance tools
- User-account and credential-related Control Panel pages
- Date, language, region, accessibility, and sound settings
- File Explorer, indexing, fonts, and backup-related tasks
The exact entries depend on your Windows 11 build, installed hardware, connected devices, enabled features, organizational policies, and account permissions. Some links open a classic Control Panel dialog; others forward to a page in the modern Settings app or to another Windows management console.
Important limitations
It does not unlock administrator privileges
Renaming a folder with a CLSID changes how Explorer presents the item. It does not elevate your account, disable User Account Control, bypass permissions, reveal another user’s files, or make restricted settings editable. If Windows normally requires administrator approval for a task, that requirement remains.
It is not a complete Settings replacement
Windows 11 has moved many controls from Control Panel into Settings, and the special view does not necessarily include every option in the Settings app. Features introduced after the corresponding Control Panel page may appear only in Settings. Treat this folder as a convenient index of available Control Panel tasks, not a master directory of every Windows setting.

The contents are not identical on every computer
There is no single published task count that applies to every Windows 11 installation. Optional components, hardware drivers, editions, language packs, policy restrictions, and future updates can change the names or number of entries. A missing item does not by itself indicate that Windows is damaged.
It does not create new tools
The folder contains links to functions already present in Windows. Removing the folder does not uninstall anything, and creating it does not install a maintenance utility or third-party software.
Optional: launch the namespace view without keeping a folder
Microsoft also documents launching a shell namespace directly with Explorer and a CLSID. This is useful if you want a temporary shortcut rather than a visible desktop folder, but it is less convenient for most people because the command must be run again whenever you want the view.
- Press Windows+R to open the Run dialog.
- Type
explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. - Press Enter. File Explorer should open the same class of task view.
You can also create a desktop shortcut using that command as its target. Right-click the desktop, choose New > Shortcut, enter the command, select Next, give the shortcut a descriptive name, and choose Finish. The shortcut route does not change permissions or expose additional tasks; it simply avoids storing the folder-naming junction.
Troubleshooting when it does not work
The name remains an ordinary folder
- Check that the period appears directly before
{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. - Check both curly braces and every hyphen in the identifier.
- Ensure the name was entered as the folder’s name, not as a file name inside the folder.
- Confirm that you did not leave a trailing space or add a second extension.
Rename the item again with F2, replace the entire name rather than editing one character, and press Enter. If Windows displays a warning about changing a file-name extension, cancel and verify that you are renaming a folder and that File Explorer is not hiding an unintended extension.

The folder icon changes but opening it shows an error
Close the Explorer window, reopen File Explorer, and try the item again. If the problem persists, delete the junction and recreate it in a local folder such as the desktop. A location supplied by a synchronization service, removable drive, network share, or restrictive corporate policy may not handle shell namespace junctions consistently.
Some entries are missing
Use Settings or Control Panel directly for the missing function. The list is generated from Windows’ available shell tasks, so edition differences, optional features, device drivers, language settings, and administrator policies can affect what is displayed. A task may also be represented by a differently worded entry.
A task opens but cannot be changed
Right-click the task or follow its normal Windows workflow and provide administrator credentials if prompted. The special view is only an index; it does not alter the account context under which each tool runs.
Search returns no useful result
Clear the search box and try a shorter term. Search for the category or object rather than an action—for example, try printer instead of “make my printer work.” You can also sort by name and scan the relevant category.
The Run command does not open the view
Recheck the command’s spelling and punctuation, especially the three colon characters in shell::: and the braces around the CLSID. Enter it in the Run dialog rather than a web browser. If your organization blocks shell commands, use the ordinary folder method or ask an administrator about the policy.
Removing the folder safely
When you no longer need the index, close any task windows launched from it, select the item, and press Delete. You are deleting the junction point, not uninstalling Windows components. If the item is on the desktop, it normally moves to the Recycle Bin like another folder; you can empty the bin later if desired.
Do not delete other folders merely because their names contain braces or look unfamiliar. Only remove the item you intentionally created. If you used a shortcut instead, delete the shortcut; the underlying Windows task namespace remains part of the operating system.
Folder method versus direct launch

A practical workflow for using the view
- Start with the task’s object. Decide whether you need a printer, network, account, power, display, or security control.
- Search with one or two words. Use the object name first, then try a synonym if the result is empty.
- Read the full task label. Similar entries can open different dialogs, so do not select solely by icon.
- Check the account context. If the operation changes system-wide behavior, expect an administrator prompt or a policy restriction.
- Use Settings when the task is modern-only. Windows may have moved the control to Settings even though related legacy links remain visible here.
- Close the view when finished. The folder does not need to stay open for any changes you made in a task dialog to take effect.
Why this is useful despite the name
Windows 11’s controls are split between Settings, Control Panel, management consoles, and app-specific pages. The special folder reduces the amount of menu hunting required for legacy controls by placing many links in one searchable namespace. It is particularly useful when you know the general function you need but not which Windows app contains it, or when instructions written for an older Windows release refer to a Control Panel page that is no longer obvious.

New Windows 11 features may never appear in the list, and some entries may redirect to Settings anyway. Keeping the folder is a convenience choice, not a maintenance requirement.
Quick verification checklist
- The item began as a normal folder.
- The final name is

- Both braces and all hyphens are present.
- Opening the item displays a task list instead of an empty directory.
- Searching the list finds at least one relevant Control Panel task.
- You understand that the view does not grant elevated rights or guarantee every Settings option.
Bottom line
Create a folder, rename it with the exact CLSID name, and open it in File Explorer. The result is a convenient Control Panel task index, not a privileged “mode.” Use it for discovery and quick access, then switch to Settings or the normal administrative tools whenever the required option is not listed.
