Samsung washer sound controls vary by model, so there is no universal button sequence. Check your washer for a dedicated Sound or Alarm Off control, a sound icon marking a button’s secondary function, a sound setting in SmartThings on compatible models, or a Sounds menu on an applicable screen-based Combo. Use the manual for your full model code to confirm the exact control and what it mutes.
Find the sound control for your washer
Start by identifying the washer’s full model code and panel type. Samsung says sound adjustment is available only on select models, and controls differ across layouts and regions. Its control layout guide explains why a button’s function should be checked against the manual for the specific model.

- Inspect the panel. Look for a button labeled Sound or Alarm Off, or a bell or crossed-speaker icon that indicates a secondary function. Samsung examples include controls associated with Super Speed, Alarm Off, or Extra Rinse; some models require holding the marked button for three seconds. These are examples, not universal instructions.
- Follow the model’s instructions exactly. Use the button or combination printed on the panel or described in the matching manual. Do not assume a sequence from another Samsung washer applies.
- Check SmartThings if the washer is compatible. Some newer models may offer a Sounds switch, volume slider, or end-of-cycle alarm choice in the appliance card. If you do not see a sound control, check the manual for a panel setting or confirmation that the model has no adjustment.
- Check Settings on a screen-based Combo. Applicable models may provide Sound mode, Sound theme, or Volume under Settings; available options depend on the model.
- Test the setting. Confirm whether the cycle-completion chime changes, and check the manual to see whether the setting should persist after restart.
Samsung’s US instructions and Canadian instructions describe several control routes. The labels and steps are model-dependent, so use them only when they match your washer’s panel.
Panel-specific examples from Samsung
Samsung UK documents different procedures for particular interfaces. They illustrate why the model’s own instructions matter; do not try them unless your washer has the described panel and controls.

AI Panel example
For the AI Panel models covered by Samsung UK, hold Options for five seconds, turn the dial to select Alarm settings, then use the O icon to toggle the setting.

Samsung Australia documents sound controls for certain Simple UX models. The exact control is model-specific; use the panel labels and the relevant manual rather than treating one model’s steps as a general shortcut. Samsung’s end-of-cycle melody guide describes its applicable models.

What muting changes—and what it may not
A sound setting may mute the end-of-cycle alarm or power-off melody without silencing every sound. Depending on the model, button sounds or other operating sounds may remain. Samsung’s Australia guidance describes an end-of-cycle melody control, while its US and UK guidance distinguishes alarm sounds from button sounds.
For applicable Laundry Combo models, Samsung’s manual warns: “If you set the Sound mode to Mute, the alert sound will not be turned off for safety purposes.” This is a safety exception documented for that product manual, not a claim about every Samsung washer. Consult the US support guide and your model’s manual to establish which sound categories its setting controls.

If you cannot find a mute setting
- Confirm that you have the manual for the full model code, not merely a similar-looking washer.
- Check both the visible button labels and any secondary functions marked by a sound or bell icon.
- If the washer is connected to SmartThings, check its appliance card for a sound control; the app options are not available on every compatible appliance.
- If the manual does not explain how to change the sound setting, Samsung’s US support guidance says that model does not offer that feature.
Samsung’s guidance is regional as well as model-specific: the UK, US, Canadian, and Australian pages describe different interfaces and examples. For an exact button sequence, the full model code and its matching manual are decisive.
