First check the manual for your exact model: depending on the washer, sound controls may be labeled Alarm Off or Sound, appear as a secondary button function, or be available in SmartThings. The sounds that remain audible vary by model, so do not assume that muting the completion chime also silences—or preserves—all other alerts.
Find out whether your washer supports sound control
Samsung says sound adjustment is available only on selected models. Find the washer’s model code and use it to locate the matching manual through Samsung Support. Look for instructions to adjust alarm sounds or turn sound off. Samsung’s US support guidance says that if the manual has no instructions for toggling sound, the model does not have that feature: Samsung’s sound-control guidance.

Do not try a button combination borrowed from another washer. Samsung’s instructions differ across models and markets, and a button that controls sound on one washer may do something else on yours.

Mute the washer using the documented control
Use Alarm Off or Sound if the panel has it
If your manual identifies a dedicated Alarm Off or Sound control, follow its instructions. Samsung’s US guidance describes Alarm Off on supported models, while Samsung’s Canadian instructions show that available controls vary: Samsung Canada’s washer sound instructions.

Use a secondary button function only when the manual says to
Some washers put sound control behind a secondary function. Depending on the model, Samsung lists buttons such as Super Speed, Extra Rinse, or Temp; some instructions require holding the button for three seconds. Treat that duration and button list as examples, not a universal shortcut. Use only the button and timing specified in your washer’s manual.
Check the on-screen settings menu
If your washer has a display with settings, check its manual for a sound or alarm option. Menu names and availability are model-dependent; the manual is the reliable guide to the exact path.

Adjust sound in SmartThings, if your model supports it
On some compatible washers, the SmartThings appliance card may offer a Sounds switch, volume slider, or end-of-cycle alarm setting. Open the washer’s card and check its available controls. If a sound setting is absent, Samsung advises checking the panel and manual; the model may not support app-based sound adjustment. Samsung’s guidance on adjusting washer sounds.

The washer’s audible sound setting and SmartThings notifications are separate. A connected washer can send cycle-completion and error notifications to a phone or other Samsung device, and notification settings can be changed in the app. If you rely on those remote alerts, leave notifications enabled for the washer rather than disabling them to mute the appliance. What may still make a sound after muting
Alarm Off may stop the cycle-completion melody and power-off beep while leaving button and alert sounds on, according to Samsung’s US washer guidance. Another Samsung guide notes that some sounds, including Child Lock notifications, remain active. A US Laundry Combo manual separately says: “If you set the Sound mode to Mute, the alert sound will not be turned off for safety purposes.” That statement applies to the Laundry Combo manual’s model scope, not every Samsung washer. For your own washer, the model-specific manual determines which sounds are muted and which remain audible. Keep SmartThings notifications enabled if you want remote cycle or error alerts; they are not the same as sounds played by the washer.
