To multistream from OBS, send a live feed to YouTube and each other destination either directly from your computer or through a cloud relay. First confirm your YouTube channel can go live, collect each platform’s current ingest details, then choose the setup that fits your computer and internet connection. YouTube calls simultaneous distribution of the same live content “simulstreaming.”
Choose between OBS output and a cloud relay
With a local setup, your computer encodes and sends the stream. That gives you direct control, but adds processing work and may require more upload capacity as destinations are added. With a cloud relay, OBS sends one feed to a service, which distributes it to selected destinations; this can reduce the load on your computer.

| Consideration | OBS sends to destinations | Cloud relay |
|---|---|---|
| Where work happens | Your computer handles encoding and outgoing streams. | Your computer sends one feed; the service distributes it. |
| Best fit | A sufficiently powerful computer and a need for direct control. | A simpler setup or a lighter workload on the local computer. |
| Destination count | Depends on your computer, network, and destination requirements. | YouTube suggests considering a relay when streaming to more than two channels. |
| Cost | No universal cost is established by YouTube’s guidance. | Services often charge a subscription; free plans may have limitations. Check the provider’s current terms. |
These are architectural choices, not a guarantee that a particular OBS plugin, relay, or combination will work with every destination. Setup options and platform ingest requirements vary.
Check YouTube access and destination accounts
Confirm the YouTube channel is eligible
YouTube requires a verified channel with live streaming enabled and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours after you request it. Confirm access before scheduling a broadcast. YouTube’s streaming guidance and encoder setup guidance cover these prerequisites.

Check the other platforms
Make sure each destination account is active and in good standing. Follow that platform’s current official live-stream instructions to find any required RTMP server URL and stream key. Requirements differ by platform and can change, so do not assume a setting from one service applies to another.
Protect stream keys
YouTube provides a server URL and stream key through its encoder workflow. A stream key functions like a password for your broadcast: do not show it in screenshots, public documents, or a recording. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through the platform’s live-stream controls.

Set up the stream from OBS
- Enable YouTube Live. Verify the channel and request live-stream access if it is not already enabled. Allow at least 24 hours for a first activation.
- Create or schedule the YouTube stream. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Copy the server URL and stream key from the encoder setup details. Keep the key private.
- Collect details for each additional destination. For every other platform, follow its official instructions and note the current server URL, stream key, and any destination-specific requirements.
- Choose the sending method. Configure OBS for YouTube and any additional outputs supported by your chosen workflow, or configure OBS to send a single feed to a cloud relay and select destinations there. The exact controls depend on your OBS version, any plugin, the relay, and each platform’s current ingest support.
- Test the complete broadcast. Use a private or otherwise suitable test with the intended picture, audio, resolution, frame rate, and destinations. Check YouTube’s stream health indicators and confirm every destination receives the right picture and sound.
There is no single upload-speed target that fits every multistream setup: the required capacity depends on the resolution, bitrate, and distribution method. YouTube advises testing upload speed realistically with audio and video active as they will be during the broadcast. As YouTube puts it, “For high-quality simulstreaming, sufficient Internet upload speed is critical for the live streams to work properly.” See YouTube’s encoder and bandwidth guidance.
Understand YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits
YouTube’s current help guidance states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at the same time; reaching either can prevent another stream from starting. These are YouTube limits, separate from any cloud relay’s destination or plan limits. See YouTube’s active-stream limits.

Troubleshoot common multistream problems
- YouTube will not let you start a live stream: Check channel verification, whether Live is enabled, and whether the channel has had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. A first activation may still be pending for at least 24 hours.
- A destination rejects the connection: Recheck that you copied that platform’s current server URL and matching stream key. Confirm the account is active and in good standing, and check the destination’s official ingest requirements.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Treat it as a compromised credential and replace or reset it using the platform’s controls. Do not reuse a key shown publicly.
- One destination has no picture or sound: Check that the destination was selected and connected in the chosen OBS or relay workflow. Verify its own ingest status and test picture and audio on that destination rather than relying only on OBS’s local preview.
- Video or audio delivery is unstable: Test upload capacity while the actual audio and video are active. Review YouTube’s stream health indicators and check whether the chosen local or relay workflow is sending the intended feed.
- No additional YouTube stream can start: Check both the active-stream count for the channel and the count for the stream key. A third-party relay’s own limits do not override YouTube’s limits.
