To move the Windows 11 taskbar, open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors, then choose Top, Left, Right, or Bottom under Taskbar position. The feature is rolling out to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, so the setting may not yet appear on every eligible PC.

Microsoft’s [August 27, 2026 preview update notes] describe this position selector as a new feature for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. The update is delivered in gradual and normal release phases, and Microsoft says gradual rollout means availability can vary by device.

- VERSATILE COMPATIBILITY: This keyboard is designed to work with multiple Windows versions, including Vista, 7, 8, 10 offering broad compatibility across devices.
- SLEEK DESIGN: The elegant black color of the wired keyboard complements your tech and decor, adding a stylish and cohesive look to any setup without sacrificing function.

If “Taskbar position” is missing
Check Settings > Windows Update for available updates, install what is offered, and check the taskbar settings again. Because Microsoft is rolling the feature out by device, an eligible Windows version may not have received it yet. The cited update notes do not establish a specific date when the control will reach every PC.
Microsoft’s general [Customize the Taskbar in Windows] page contains conflicting location guidance: its Windows 11 alignment section says there are no settings to move the taskbar to the top or side, while another section describes the four locations. For the feature announced in August 2026, use the dated update notes and the setting when it appears on your device.

What changes with each position
The position control moves the taskbar itself. It is separate from choosing whether taskbar icons are aligned left or centered; icon alignment does not move the bar to another screen edge.
| Position | Search box and smaller taskbar |
|---|---|
| Top | Supported |
| Bottom | Supported |
| Left | Not currently supported |
| Right | Not currently supported |
Microsoft says most taskbar customization settings, including never combining taskbar icons, work in all four positions. Tooltips, flyouts, and animations continue to come from the taskbar. The Search box and smaller taskbar are the stated exceptions: they are currently supported only at the top and bottom.

Should you choose the top, left, or right edge?
Pick the edge that best suits how you use your screen. The available Microsoft information does not provide performance measurements, ergonomic comparisons, or quantified screen-space savings for the different positions, so there is no evidence-based universal best choice. If you rely on the Search box or smaller taskbar, choose the top or bottom edge.
Microsoft’s [Windows accessibility features page] also describes moving the taskbar to the top, left, or right, but does not give the newer settings path or rollout details. For the current control and its availability, the August 2026 update notes are more specific.
