Samsung Notes does not have a documented direct live-sync path into Apple Notes on iPhone. To keep your notes after switching, export them from your Galaxy: use PDF for a visual copy you can view and annotate on iPhone, or use a supported text format and import it through Notes on a Mac. Samsung Smart Switch transfers content to Galaxy devices, not from Samsung to iPhone.
Choose a method based on what you need
| Method | Best for | What you get | What it requires or does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Export as PDF, then attach in iPhone Notes | Keeping a visual record of handwriting, layout, or a finished note | A PDF attachment that can be viewed and annotated in Notes on iPhone | It is not established as a conversion to ordinary editable Apple Notes text. Apple’s PDF guide |
| Export text, then import with Notes on Mac | Making note text into separate Apple Notes entries | Each supported imported file becomes a new note; iCloud Notes can be selected as the destination | Requires Notes on Mac. Preservation of Samsung-specific formatting, attachments, and metadata is not specified. Apple’s import guide |
| Samsung Notes sync through OneNote | Not a dependable option for every current Samsung device | Availability depends on software version | Samsung says this sync is unavailable on devices with One UI 9. Samsung’s current troubleshooting notice |
Samsung Notes offers PDF, Word, PowerPoint, image, and text export options, though the available choices can vary by device and software. See Samsung’s feature guide and PDF export instructions.

Export Samsung Notes from your Galaxy
- Keep the original notes. Do not delete or reset the Galaxy until you have checked the exported copies.
- Open Samsung Notes and choose an export format. Export a representative note first. If it contains handwriting, pictures, audio, or unusual formatting, inspect the exported file before moving the rest.
- Choose PDF for a visual archive or text for reuse. Samsung documents several export formats, but does not provide a complete cross-platform fidelity guide. Check that the material you need is present in the exported file.
- Make the exported files accessible to the next device. Save or share them somewhere you can open from the iPhone, or transfer them to a Mac if you plan to use Notes on Mac.
Put PDF exports in iPhone Notes
On the iPhone, open the PDF in Files or Mail and use the share action to add it to Notes. Apple describes the result as a PDF attachment: you can view and annotate it in Notes, but the documented workflow does not turn the PDF into editable note text. This is the better route when appearance matters more than editing the content as a regular Apple Note.

Import text as Apple Notes on a Mac
Apple documents file import through Notes on Mac, rather than a direct batch-import workflow on iPhone. Its listed supported types are .txt, .rtf, .rtfd, .html, .enex, and .md. Export Samsung notes into a supported text format, import those files in Notes on Mac, and choose iCloud Notes if you want the imported notes available on devices signed in to that iCloud account. Each imported file becomes a new note. Menu labels can vary by macOS version; follow Apple’s import or share instructions.

The available documentation does not establish how well Samsung-specific formatting, embedded objects, or metadata survive this route. Inspect important notes after import rather than assuming the result matches the Samsung original.
Why Smart Switch and OneNote may not solve it
Smart Switch transfers in the other direction
Smart Switch is not the tool for moving Samsung Notes from a Galaxy phone to an iPhone. Samsung’s documentation describes transfers to Galaxy devices; it lists Notes among content that can be brought from iOS into Galaxy, which is the reverse direction. See Samsung’s Smart Switch content list and iOS-to-Galaxy transfer instructions.

OneNote sync is version-dependent
Samsung’s current US troubleshooting notice says Samsung Notes synchronization with Microsoft OneNote is unavailable on devices running One UI 9 and points users toward Samsung Cloud for Samsung Notes sync instead. Samsung Cloud may help keep notes synchronized within Samsung’s ecosystem, but it does not make them native Apple Notes. An older Samsung guide describes the OneNote Feed integration; treat it as version-specific, not proof the feature is currently available on every device. The older guide also says items shown in the OneNote Feed cannot be edited or removed there: Samsung’s OneNote guide.

- Open a sample of exported files on the iPhone or Mac and confirm the text, handwriting, and images you need are present.
- For PDFs, verify that the attachment opens in Notes and that annotations work as expected.
- For imported text, check whether the formatting and content are usable in the new Apple Notes entries.
- Keep the Samsung Notes originals until you have verified the migrated copies you intend to rely on.
