1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can move files between cloud services either with a provider’s supported transfer/import tool or by exporting an archive and uploading it to the new service. Use a direct route when it supports your accounts and the content you need; otherwise, stage an export somewhere safe. Most routes copy data rather than keep two services synchronized, so verify the destination before deleting anything from the source.
Choose a transfer method that fits your services
There is no single process that moves everything between every cloud provider. Start by checking whether the source offers a direct transfer to your intended destination, or whether the destination can import from that source. If neither supports your combination, use the source’s export tool and upload the resulting files to the destination.

| Route | What it does | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| Google Photos direct transfer | Copies selected Google Photos content to a supported outside service after authorizing both accounts. | Some content and metadata are excluded; the source remains in Google Photos. Google Photos Help |
| Google Takeout archive | Packages selected Google account data for delivery to a supported cloud destination or a download link. | An archive is not ongoing synchronization, and changes made after the request may be absent. Google Photos Help |
| Google Photos to iCloud Photos | Uses Google Takeout to send eligible photos and videos into iCloud. | Requires eligible Apple Account settings and sufficient iCloud storage; some files go to iCloud Drive rather than Photos. Apple Support |
| Google Drive to Dropbox | Imports selected Google Drive files from Dropbox on the web. | For individual accounts, not team accounts; select files rather than importing an entire folder automatically. Dropbox Help |
| OneDrive to Dropbox | Dropbox documents importing files from OneDrive through its upload workflow. | Availability may be limited to certain individual plans. Dropbox Help |
Prepare before you transfer
Decide exactly what must move
List the source and destination, and whether you need original files, photos and videos, albums, folders, descriptions, dates, or other metadata. A service may transfer the media without preserving every organizational detail. Check the source’s stated exclusions for the route you plan to use.

Confirm that both accounts are eligible for the selected workflow and that the destination has enough free space. A full destination can prevent some Google Photos items from transferring, and Apple requires adequate iCloud storage for its import. For Apple’s Google Photos import, iCloud Photos and iCloud Drive must be enabled; Advanced Data Protection must be off during the import, and child and Managed Apple Accounts are not eligible.

Decide whether you need local staging
A local archive is useful when no direct import fits or when you want a separate working copy. Google recommends downloading and viewing Takeout exports on a desktop computer. Choose a safe storage location with enough room for the archive, extracted files, and any duplicate copy you keep. Large exports may be split into multiple archive files. A portable drive is optional for this route and is not needed for a direct cloud-to-cloud transfer.
Transfer Google Photos to another supported service
- In your Google Account Dashboard, open Photos and choose Transfer data.
- Choose the photos and videos to copy and select the destination service.
- Follow the prompts to authorize Google Takeout and sign in to authorize the destination account.
- Wait for the providers’ completion notices, then inspect the destination before making any changes to the source.
This process copies content rather than relocating it. Google states, “Photos and videos are not deleted from your Google Account after you transfer them.” Repeating the transfer may create duplicates, so do not rerun it casually. The result is also subject to the destination’s sharing permissions.

What may be missing
Google Photos does not transfer every item type or metadata. Its exclusions include unsupported file types, content in Locked Folder, unsaved creations, items in Trash, manually edited metadata, and video components of Motion Photos or Live Photos. Google lists supported image formats including JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, and most RAW, along with specified video formats; unsupported formats are not transferred. Check Google’s current exclusions and format list before treating the destination as a complete archive: Google Photos transfer details.

Move Google Photos to iCloud Photos
- Open Google Takeout and select the Google Photos content you want to transfer.
- Choose Apple – iCloud Photos as the destination and follow the authorization steps for your Apple Account.
- Allow time for processing: Apple says a transfer can take several hours to a few days, depending on its size.
- In iCloud Photos, look for an album named Import from Google with the transfer date. Check iCloud Drive for an Import from Google folder as well.
Apple’s route accepts JPEG, HEIC, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, and most MP4 and MOV files for Photos. Unsupported-to-Photos files, including RAW files, are routed to iCloud Drive. Apple says transferred files are provided at the resolution Google makes available for export. See Apple’s transfer instructions and eligibility requirements.

Use Google Takeout for general account data
Google Takeout can package selected data and deliver an archive to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box, or provide a download link. Choose the specific data categories you need and the available delivery method in Takeout. This is an export, not a live link between services: files changed after you make the request may not reflect those later changes in the archive.
Google says large exports can take from minutes to days. Archives can be split into multiple files according to the size option selected, and download links expire after about seven days, so retrieve the archive promptly. See Google’s Takeout delivery information and archive download and storage guidance.

Import Google Drive files into Dropbox
- Sign in to dropbox.com with an individual Dropbox account.
- Choose Upload, then Import from Google Drive.
- Authorize Google Drive, select the files you want, and review Dropbox’s import options before starting.
- After the import, inspect the files in Dropbox and confirm that the selected content arrived as expected.
Dropbox’s documented feature is not available on team accounts. It imports selected files, not every file in a selected folder automatically, though it can preserve the path for selected files. Review the options carefully: Dropbox offers same-name overwrite and source deletion controls. Leave source deletion off until you have checked the destination. See Dropbox’s Google Drive import instructions.
Import OneDrive files into Dropbox
Dropbox’s upload guidance documents an import from OneDrive, but says it may only be available on certain individual plans. Check whether the option appears for your account before relying on it. If available, use Dropbox’s Upload workflow and verify the imported files before removing anything from OneDrive. See Dropbox upload instructions.

Use an export and upload for other provider combinations
For combinations not covered by these documented routes, use the source provider’s export instructions and the destination provider’s upload or import instructions. Export to a local computer or other safe storage location, then upload the files to the destination. Do not assume that a route preserves albums, folder structure, edits, or metadata unless both providers document that behavior.
Keep the archive usable
Estimate the export size before downloading and allow room for both the archive and extracted copy. Google Takeout can split a large export into several files. Download and open the archive on a desktop, then confirm it is readable before uploading. Google notes that changes made between the Takeout request and archive creation may not be present, so make a fresh export if recent edits are essential. Guidance: Google Account Help.
Quick Recap
Verify the destination before deleting the source
- Wait for completion notices from the services involved.
- Compare the destination’s folders or albums with the content you intended to move.
- Open representative files, including full-resolution photos and videos, and check dates or metadata that matter to you.
- Check the expected import location. For Apple’s route, items may be split between the Photos album and the iCloud Drive folder described above.
- Only after verification, decide whether to delete the old copy or cancel the old storage plan.
