Can You Use a Bluetooth Mouse with Multiple Devices?

A Bluetooth mouse needs multi-device channels—not just Bluetooth—to pair with and switch between multiple computers or tablets.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes—provided the mouse supports multiple device channels. Pair each computer or tablet with a separate channel, then switch to the host you want to control using the mouse’s selector button or supported software. Bluetooth capability alone does not guarantee that a mouse can store or switch between multiple hosts.

Pairing and switching are different

Pairing saves a connection between the mouse and a host device. Switching selects which saved host currently receives the mouse’s input. A mouse may pair successfully with one computer but lack extra channels for convenient switching between computers.

Check the manual or the manufacturer’s support page for your exact model. Look for a stated channel count and instructions for changing the active device.

How many devices can one Bluetooth mouse connect to?

There is no universal count; it depends on the mouse. For example, Microsoft says the Surface Precision Mouse can pair with up to three devices, and Logitech’s Signature M750 instructions describe three Easy-Switch channels. These are model-specific capabilities, not a limit or guarantee for Bluetooth mice generally.

How to connect a Bluetooth mouse to another device

  1. Confirm multi-device support. Check the mouse documentation for multiple channels or multi-device switching.
  2. Select an unused channel and start pairing mode. The button sequence is model-specific. For the Signature M750, Logitech says to short-press the connect button to select a different channel, then hold it if needed to start Bluetooth pairing mode.
  3. Pair from the second host. Turn on Bluetooth, make the mouse discoverable, and choose it from the host’s Bluetooth device list. In Windows, use the Bluetooth device-pairing controls described in Microsoft’s Windows pairing instructions. Follow any on-screen prompts.
  4. Switch to the host you want to use. Choose the mouse channel paired with that device. On the Surface Precision Mouse, Microsoft says to press the Bluetooth Pairing button after setting up Smart Switch.

For model-specific button names and pairing steps, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, such as Logitech’s Signature M750 setup guide or its Bluetooth setup instructions.

Ways to switch between devices

Use the mouse’s channel button

Many multi-device mice let you select a saved host with a dedicated button. This is distinct from pairing: pair each host once, then select the corresponding channel when you want to change devices. Microsoft describes using the Bluetooth Pairing button to switch on the Surface Precision Mouse.

Use software-assisted cursor switching

Logitech Flow offers another approach: after setup, move the cursor to the edge of one computer’s screen to switch to another. Logitech says the computers must be paired for Flow and connected to the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. See Logitech Flow for its requirements. Flow is not the same as selecting a stored mouse channel with a button.

What to check before choosing a multi-device mouse

  • Channel count: How many hosts can the mouse store?
  • Switching method: Does it use a button, software, or both?
  • Connection type per channel: Does each channel support Bluetooth, a vendor receiver, or either option?
  • Host compatibility: Does the mouse work with the operating systems on your computers or tablets?

Connection options can vary even among channels on the same mouse. Logitech’s MK955/MK950 guide says Bluetooth can be assigned to all three Easy-Switch keys, while a Logi Bolt receiver can be used on only one. Check the exact model’s instructions rather than assuming every channel supports every connection method.
