You can keep a copy of your Google Maps places and organize selected locations in Apple Maps, but the documented workflow is not a universal one-click import. First identify where your places are stored, then export a backup with Google Takeout. Add places to Apple Maps Guides manually, or consider a third-party converter and check every match. Changing which app opens navigation links is a separate step from moving saved places.
Before you start, identify what you saved
Google Maps has ordinary saved places and lists, labeled places, and My Maps projects. These are not all the same feature, so check which one contains the locations you want before exporting. In Google Maps on iPhone, look under Saved for saved places and lists; Google lists My Maps separately. See Google Maps Help on saving and managing places.

Make a backup with Google Takeout
Use Google Takeout to create an archive before changing anything. Google says you can choose which data to include, select an archive delivery method and file type, and download a copy without deleting the original data. Google also cautions that changes made after you request an archive but before it is created may not be included. Keep the archive while you build and check your Apple Maps Guides. Google’s Takeout documentation explains the general archive process; it does not guarantee a particular Maps export file name, folder layout, or set of fields. Do not assume that every note, category, or type of saved location will be available in the form you need.
Choose how to put places in Apple Maps
Manual entry: best when the list is manageable
Apple Maps Guides let you collect locations into custom lists. Apple documents adding a place from a map pin or search result, then editing and sharing the Guide. Search for each location in Apple Maps, confirm that the result is the intended place, and add it to a Guide. This makes the destination choice visible, but requires handling places one at a time.

GoToAppleMaps describes a service that accepts Google Takeout CSV files and other location formats, matches locations, and creates an Apple Maps Guide link. Its current App Store listing also describes an iOS app and support for formats including CSV, KML/KMZ, GPX, GeoJSON, and JSON. The vendor says named places are easier to match than generic pins, and that multiple source lists are combined into one Apple Maps Guide. That means you should not count on the original Google list groupings being retained. Before relying on the new Guide, compare it with your archive and check ambiguous business names, branches, duplicate results, coordinates, notes, and list membership. A match is not proof that the correct location was selected.

Check the transfer before you rely on it
- Keep the Takeout archive as your reference copy.
- Open the Apple Maps Guide and inspect locations with generic names, multiple branches, or duplicate matches.
- Check that important pins have the right coordinates and that any details you rely on are present.
- Confirm that locations are organized as you want; a converted Guide may not preserve the original Google list structure.
Switching which app opens navigation is separate
Moving saved places does not change which app opens a navigation link. Default-app controls can vary by iOS version and region, so check the current Default Apps controls on your iPhone rather than relying on a universal menu path. Google’s help page found for this workflow explains choosing Google Maps as a default inside Chrome on iPhone; it does not establish the full current Apple Maps setting path for every iPhone.
